Thank you Kluge Interactive for sending us this DLC to review!
We’ve been blessed with the opportunity to review Synth Riders and most of its DLC content to date. We have yet to be disappointed. Bruno Mars is headlining many of the tracks in the Groovin’ Essentials DLC pack which features five songs for $7.99. Alternatively, you can purchase the tracks individually for $1.99 each, but you save 20% by purchasing the bundle.
Here’s the five songs included in the bundle:
* 24K Magic - Bruno Mars
* Runaway Baby - Bruno Mars
* Skate - Bruno Mars, Andersen .Paak & Silk Sonic
* Manuals - Starcadian
* Supersymmetry - Starcadian
The song I’m most familiar with from Bruno Mars is ‘Just the way you are’. That’s a wholesome love song about loving someone just the way they are and wanting to marry them. The songs in this pack are not nearly as innocent. There’s a theme of womanizing and there’s a fair amount of language (*ss, b*tches, sh*t).
Strong Points: Catchy music
Weak Points: No experience level or free songs
Moral Warnings: Language (*ss, b*tches, sh*t) and sexual themes found in most of these songs
The base Synth Riders game is required to purchase and play this DLC. Please refer to our review of the base game to learn how to play it. The DLC merely adds more music tracks and does not change the core gameplay.
Playing through all of the songs will take about twenty-five minutes. There are several difficulty levels to play on. Between trying different difficulty settings, multiplayer, and trying to get your name on the online leaderboards, there’s plenty to keep you busy.
Synth Riders has a soundtrack Spotify list here. You can check out the Groovin’ Essentials songs, as well as all of the others in the previous music packs. In the earlier music packs, free tracks were often provided, but that hasn’t been happening and there are no freebies in this pack either.

I’ve been spoiled by the experience level often included in the DLC bundles. Sadly, there isn’t one in this song pack. Even without the experience level, the songs in this bundle are catchy and fun to dance to.
The Starcadian songs are more child-friendly so be sure to keep that in mind if you plan on playing this bundle in front of family or children. I felt a bit awkward streaming the songs with language and inappropriate messages so I felt more comfortable playing the Starcadian tracks.
If you enjoy music from Bruno Mars or synth songs, the Groovin’ Essenitals is worth looking into. I’ve come to accept that free songs are not happening anytime soon. I hope that experience levels make a comeback though! As usual, I won’t be dethroning anyone on the leaderboards any time soon. I have plenty of room for improvement.
