Thank you Turtle Beach for sending us a review sample!
Performance Designed Products LLC (PDP) was founded in 1990 and has been making awarding-winning gaming peripherals since then. In 2024, Turtle Beach acquired PDP and has rebranded many of the products released by them since the acquisition. The Turtle Beach Airlite™ Fit Wired Gaming Headset is an updated version of PDP’s Gaming AIRLITE which was originally released in 2020. We were never sent this headset to review so we can’t compare them directly, but spec wise they’re practically identical with 20kHz Frequency Response, 40mm drivers and a flip microphone that has built in noise cancelling. Both models are officially licensed by Nintendo. The only difference I see is that the Turtle Beach Airlite™ Fit Wired Gaming Headset is available in different color schemes (Neon Blue & Red, White & Black, and Ghost Purple), is $3 more, and has Turtle Beach’s logo on them.
Given that we have been blessed with the opportunity to review numerous premium headsets, my first thoughts when holding the Turtle Beach Airlite™ Fit Wired Gaming Headset was that it felt cheap. With that said, the plastic seems sturdy and makes them lightweight and comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. For the price point of under $30, they sound decent and the microphone sounds pretty good and is suitable for online chat or video streams. When flipped up, the bi-directional microphone will automatically be muted which is pretty convenient.
Strong Points: Affordable headset that sounds decent and works well for streaming; light weight; multiple color options
Weak Points: The headset feels cheap, but it seems to be durable
You can hear the microphone in action in our Switch stream of Star Overdrive
When it comes to music, the sound quality is a bit muddied, especially when there’s a lot of bass. Audiophiles won’t be pleased with these, but for gaming and voice chat they’ll fit the bill.
The headphone cups are closed back meaning that you won’t be able to easily hear background noises while in use. The ear cups are designed to go over the ears and since mine are small, they fit quite comfortably. If you have larger ears, they may fit more like on-ears for you. The head band foam and ear cups are jersey knit with foam cushioning which makes them soft but firm enough to retain their form. Overall they’re comfortable, but not luxuriously squishy. I am assuming the cloth-like material will absorb sweat if need be, but hopefully that won’t be necessary! The left ear cup has the volume wheel and it gets uncomfortably loud when at full blast so parents should be mindful of the volume used by younger gamers.

The 3.5mm audio cable is a few inches shy of four feet long. This is plenty long enough for playing your switch in handheld mode. However, if you’re using the switch docked or sitting at a distance, you may need a cable extender which can be had for under $10 on Amazon. The included cable isn’t braided or detachable so you have to take good care of it!
I think the Turtle Beach Airlite™ Fit Wired Gaming Headset is an excellent choice for younger gamers who won’t appreciate the premium features available in more expensive and delicate headsets. Streamers on a budget will be happy with the microphone’s sound quality and the headset’s light weight for long gaming sessions. Overall, The Turtle Beach Airlite™ Fit Wired Gaming Headset is an amazing value for less than $30.
