Thank you be quiet! for sending us this keyboard to review!

Gamers have many choices when it comes to mechanical keyboards and switches for them. The most popular types of switches these days are linear and tactile. Linear switches have a smooth and consistent keystroke while tactile ones have a noticeable bump. Cherry’s coloring standard for linear switches is red for linear and brown for tactile. The be quiet! switches are in a class of their own and have a unique coloring standard with orange linear switches and black tactile ones.

Blue switches are not as popular these days. They have a clicky old school feel to them and while I enjoy the nostalgia, people around me don’t appreciate the typing noises. At work my boss often comments on my typing sounds while using a keyboard with red/linear switches. He often mistook my typing frenzies with aggravation and would make jokes about managing my anger issues.

The be quiet! Light Mount Keyboard is now my work keyboard because it’s so quiet and it feels amazing to type on. There are three layers of sound-proofing foam that work extremely well to dampen the noise without sacrificing the mechanical feel. All of the switches and stabilizers are lubricated for precise typing. The switches are hot-swappable if you need to replace them for any reason.

Highlights:

Strong Points: Shockingly quiet; comfortable cushioned wrist rest; quality build; lots of customization options
Weak Points: A little pricey; keyboard lighting settings were lost when using the web-based software

Everything on this keyboard is premium as one would expect with a price tag of $169. The 6-foot USB A to C cable is braided and detachable. The cushy wrist rest is connected by magnets and is very comfortable to use. Going back to a plastic wrist rest will be hard to do after using this!

There are five programmable macro keys on the far-left hand side of the keyboard. They are slightly lower than the rest of the keys to discourage accidental usage. Above the macro keys you’ll find the 3D media wheel. Twisting it left and right will adjust your volume and pressing it in will mute and unmute your sound.

The double-shot keycaps are well illuminated and the characters on them are easy to read. Behind the keys you’ll see a brushed aluminum plate that adds both quality and durability. On the bottom of the keyboard, you’ll find that the feet can be adjusted to three different angled positions for maximum ergonomic comfort.

By default, the Light Mount mechanical keyboard's keys and top ARGB bar will be illuminated in orange, but you can totally customize the colors using the IO Center software for Windows or a web interface that requires a Chromium based browser. The browser version requires you to manually detect the keyboard and from there you can update its firmware, configure the macros, or adjust the lighting effects. Since I am using this keyboard on my work PC, I opted for the web configuration to avoid adding unnecessary software. Unfortunately, my ARGB settings were lost the next day but came back once I gave in and loaded the software.

There are prebuilt lighting effects including static, color wave, tornado, breathing, reactive, and Matrix. The effects give you the option of using a single color, dual color, or gradient. You can also assign custom colors to each key if you’re so inclined. If you need to keep things professional, you can disable the illumination altogether.

Other than some software hiccups, the be quiet! Light Mount mechanical keyboard is a pleasure to use and lives up to the brand’s name. I can’t get over how silent this keyboard is. My boss will have one less thing to pick on me about.  In fact, both him and the owner of the company want one of these keyboards now! The price is a little steep compared to other keyboards I have used, but it’s well worth the money if you’re looking for a quiet mechanical keyboard.
