Thank you Ubisoft for sending us this game to review!

Just Dance brings to the table forty new tracks with eight of them being family-friendly and available in the Kids dancing mode. Buyers will also get to enjoy a free month of Just Dance Unlimited, which boasts six hundred songs to download and groove to. Up to six players can dance locally with hundreds to compete against online in the World Dance Floor.

The YouTube song list can be viewed and listened to here.  There are tracks from popular artists like Selena Gomez, Daddy Yankee, Eminem, Billie Eilish, Harry Styles, Lady Gaga, and plenty of artists that I’ve never heard of before. The kids song that I immediately recognized was You’ve Got A Friend In Me from Toy Story. In the previous Just Dance games, there were tracks from the 70s, 80s, and 90s for old farts like me, but I didn’t see any in this release. Thankfully, Just Dance Unlimited has plenty of songs online to choose from.

Highlights:

Strong Points: 40 new dance songs with 8 of them geared for children
Weak Points: No tracks for older dancers; load times; Just Dance Unlimited videos take a little while before they look good
Moral Warnings: Revealing outfits; references to other religions; songs like all the good girls go to hell doesn’t promote a positive message;  many songs have morally questionable themes including sleeping around, drunkenness, and attempted murder; curse words are muted out, so that’s nice

Just Dance Unlimited is available on PS4/PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. The best deal is to pay $24.99 annually. Alternatively, you can pay $2.99 for a day, $3.99 for a month, or $9.99 for three months. The downloaded songs sound great, but the videos take a few seconds to fully load and look decent.

The gameplay remains the same where you have to mimic the moves of the dancer on the screen. Some of the songs have multiple dancers to choose from so make sure you’re following the correct one! Depending on how accurate you are, your movements will be rated as ok, good, perfect, or not counted at all. As you dance through the song, you can earn up to five stars. The dance movements can be tracked by Joy-Con or through a mobile device using Ubisoft’s Just Dance app.

You’ll earn experience and mojo coins for each song you dance to. You can spend your mojo coins in a vending machine to earn new skins, avatars, songs, and alternate dance routines. Since I had a save from Just Dance 2020, I got a free avatar.

If you are a Nintendo Online subscriber, you can partake in the World Dance Floor which lets players worldwide vote for and compete against each other one song at a time. Even though this game has been out for a couple of months, there are still over fifty people online at any given time. Competition is pretty brutal. With that many players to compete against, every point helps! I like how it shows the stats on the number of players and countries who partook in the dance battles.

While there are many kid friendly songs in this game, there are plenty more that are not. Like other Just Dance games, many of the songs talk about love, hooking up, and drinking. Some of the dancers are shown in bikini-like outfits and their dance moves can be sexual in nature at times. Spanish speakers will enjoy several of the new songs in their native language. If you have Just Dance Unlimited activated, you have access to most songs from previous games that we’ve called out for various reasons including LGBTQ references.

If you’re looking for a fun way to burn calories indoors, Just Dance 2021 has you covered. Though I’m not familiar with the new songs, I enjoyed my free month of Just Dance Unlimited. The unlimited mode greatly expands the music library and is worth considering if you plan on playing this game longer than the thirty-day trial period. The online community is very active and will keep you on your toes!

About Us:

Christ Centered Gamer looks at video games from two view points. We analyze games on a secular level which will break down a game based on its graphics, sound, stability and overall gaming experience. If you’re concerned about the family friendliness of a game, we have a separate moral score which looks at violence, language, sexual content, occult references and other ethical issues.
