Barry the Bunny is an 8-bit 2D platformer about a rabbit that likes to bridge bridges. Each of the ninety-six levels have three logs for Barry to collect in order to build a bridge for that level. Gathering the wood seems to be optional as you’re able to exit a level without doing so. As Barry progresses through the game, he will travel through four different worlds.

Along with logs, Barry can collect carrots and hammers. The hammers are used to throw at enemies from a safe distance. Barry cannot jump on or touch enemies or spikes. However, if he’s wearing a helmet, he can take minor damage one time. The carrots act as health. With each death, Barry will lose some carrots. As long as you have a few in your possession, you can keep going. Barry will get a bunch of carrots and/or hammers with each bridge he builds.

Highlights:

Strong Points: Cute and fun platformer
Weak Points: Repetitive music
Moral Warnings: Cartoon violence

Many of the levels have checkpoints that Barry can respawn from in the event that he dies. With some annoying obstacles to dodge and get through, I’m thankful for these checkpoints. Any previously collected logs do not have to be gathered again from a checkpoint.

Like many platformers, you can expect to jump on stationary and moving platforms. There are spikes and numerous animals to avoid as well. Some of the spikes will fall as Barry gets close. The falling spikes are darker in color so you can tell them apart from the immobile ones. Later in the game, you’ll come across barrels of TNT which will explode shortly after you land on them so you have to get off of them real quick. There are also other exploding barrels that have green writing that explode on impact, so you’ll have to avoid those altogether.

(10/10 is perfect)

Game Score - 80%
Gameplay: 16/20
Graphics: 7/10
Sound: 7/10
Stability: 5/5
Controls: 5/5

Morality Score - 96%
Violence: 8/10
Language: 10/10
Sexual Content: 10/10
Occult/Supernatural: 10/10

The visuals are colorful and cute. There’s a decent amount of variety in enemies ranging from hedgehogs, fish, bees, snakes, crabs, cats, and more. You’ll also encounter a few giant bosses to battle against. There are achievements for each boss you defeat. Altogether, there are fourteen achievements in this title.

The chiptune music is a bit repetitive and nothing special. The sound effects are fitting and add to the game’s charm.

Morally, there’s little to complain about in this title. There’s cartoon violence, but no blood or gore is shown.

If you enjoy cute platformer games that offer a moderate challenge, Barry the Bunny is worth looking into. For the reasonable price of $4.99, this game will entertain you for two and a half to four hours depending on your skill level.
