In Offspring Fling, you play as a forest creature who has lost track of her offspring after being attacked by a dinosaur, the mighty Dinobaus. Determined, she sets off in a quest to rescues all her children and face Dinobaus in a one-on-one battle. In order to do so, she must use her motherly instincts and rad platforming skills to navigate the harsh jungle terrine and locate her missing offspring. 

The game consists of 100 main levels and 20 bonus levels. There is also an additional level editor you can download from the game’s website that allows you to create your own levels and play custom levels shared by other players. To complete the levels, you must safely guide your offspring to an exit door placed throughout the level. Standing in your path are a number of hazards, including toxic liquid and hostile creatures. The mother’s offspring are scattered throughout the levels and it is your job to make sure they reach the exit points safely without getting hurt. She transports her children by picking them up and balancing them on her head. The more children she carries, the slower she walks and the less high she can jump. As is the name of the game, you may also fling your offspring, allowing them to bounce off the deflectors, avoid hazard, and quickly reach new areas to save yourself time. 

Offspring Fling requires a mix of both platforming and puzzle solving skills. Most of the puzzles in the main levels are fairly simple and the real challenge lies in the execution. Overall, I found the controls in the game to be pretty good. Occasionally, I did have some slight feedback issues, but it didn’t interfere too much with my gameplay. 

In your first playthrough of Offspring Fling, you can relax and take it slow. Enjoy the scenery and pleasant music while you figure out how to solve the levels for the first time. After you’ve completed the all the main levels and defeated the final boss, you are encouraged to revisit them to try to get better times. In each level, you can earn three types of flowers. Blue is awarded for solely completing the level, gold for beating the level under a certain time, and rainbow for passing or matching the top time met by the developer. Getting all the gold flowers in the main levels unlocks the first 10 bonus levels, and getting the all the rainbow flowers unlocks the remaining 10. After many failed attempts, I eventually managed to get all the gold flowers. This proved to be an extremely frustrating, yet rewarding task. I can only imagine how insanely difficult it is to get all the rainbow flowers, of which I only managed to get 7 (so far). 

If you thought getting the gold flowers was hard enough, then just wait till you start the bonus levels. To complete them requires you to use advanced platforming techniques and to solve difficult puzzles. These levels were too tough for me, but I’m sure many others have enjoyed their increased challenge.

The music in Offspring Fling is truly spectacular, some of the finest I’ve heard in a video game. Each track is unique. Some are cheerful, others intense; all beautify arranged. Listening to the soundtrack on its own is enjoyable, but in the game, it gives it new life. The sound effects are also nice and compliment the game well. 

Visually, Offspring Fling looks particularly nice. The graphics were designed in a way that gives the game an authentic hand-drawn look. Periodically during some of levels, it will be also be raining in the background. Unfortunately, the resolution options are limited. If you want to play the game in full screen, prepare for either black bars on the side of your screen or for having the visuals stretched. 

Morally, Offspring Fling is about as clean as it gets. Both the mother and her children also have the ability to die by the toxic acid and enemies they encounter, but all that is seen is a small explosion, nothing graphic. Other than that, the only character in the game that dies is final boss. All the other enemies in game only have the ability to be momentarily stunned when you fling your offspring at them.

If you enjoy platformers, Offspring Fling is as good a choice as any. Playing through the main levels should only take a few hours, but going for fast times adds a lot more to lifespan of the game. Offspring Fling looks nice, sounds great, and plays well, and I highly recommend you check it out.
