Thanks to one of patreon supporters who gifted this game to me to review!
Copy Kitty begins with a cat-like girl named Boki receiving a birthday present from her uncle, Savant. The present warps her into a computer-like word similar to the Matrix. In this computer-generated environment, Boki can quickly learn and use the elemental attacks used against her on the robotic enemies. Before beginning a level, you can usually choose a starting ability, but if all else fails, Boki can use her powerful kick to damage the environment or enemies.
When I first started playing this game in 2020, I was impressed with the concept and funny dialogue. One of the biggest annoyances was the lack of gamepad controller support. I had to have a cheat sheet reminding me of the various keyboard buttons to press to use, equip, and drop abilities along with completing a powerful kick. When picking up and playing this game again this year (I’m easily distracted) I was happy to find that my Xbox controller now works. According to the Steam page, there is partial controller support so third-party game controllers may not work properly.
Strong Points: Fun concept; multiple play routes; witty dialogue
Weak Points: Launched without controller support
Moral Warnings: Cartoon violence against robots
Upon launching the game you’ll get to choose between completing the tutorial (highly recommended!), story mode, and endless mode. Savant’s story mode unlocks after you complete world one.
It took me a little over seven hours to complete Boki’s campaign. In total, there are thirteen worlds with multiple levels in each one. There are no checkpoints in them but you can restart each level without having to redo the entire world. If you want to get a sneak peek of the game, the demo generously lets you try out five of the worlds.
Each level has a set number of enemies to defeat and many of them are often behind locked areas where you’ll have to collect the key first. Upon completing a level you’ll see a stats screen with how damage you took and much time was required in order to finish the level. This game is very speedrunner friendly so it can be used for bragging rights if desired.
There are many power-ups and some of them are better than others. As an added bonus, you can combine attack types to make an even more powerful Super Shot attack. The explode attack can do area of effect damage while the lightning attack can travel long distance. The bounce attack does as suggested and bounces off of the walls until it finds its target. The tornado attack that goes through walls is my favorite! Along with attack modes you’ll often come across healing hearts so don’t be shy with using those!

At the end of each world is an intimidating boss battle to overcome. Like many game bosses, they often have patterns and weaknesses to exploit so keep your eyes open. Many of the boss fights have Boki starting unarmed so you’ll have to do damage to the boss with your basic attack to have them drop a more powerful attack that they just so happen to be weak against. How convenient!
Copy Kitty is pretty clean as there are just explosions from the various robotic enemies as you defeat them. Boki can take damage, but there is no blood shown when she does. Instead, she breaks down into floating 0s and 1s.
This game is well polished and I like the visuals, explosions, and various particle effects used. The peppy sound track is catchy and available for purchase on Steam for $4.99 if you want it. You can save 10% by buying the game and soundtrack together.
If you like action platformer games, Copy Kitty is worth checking out. Especially with the added controller support! If you’re on the fence, give the demo a try. It won’t disappoint.
