Thank you Aosu for sending us a review unit!
At our previous house we had a Ring doorbell. It was nice to be notified on our phone and see video footage when the doorbell was rang or if there was motion detected. There’s a small monthly fee or you can save some money by paying annually to use the Ring doorbell. Amazon got a lot of backlash for sharing people’s doorbell footage with law enforcement without their consent. Their policy changed in 2024 and going forward anyone with a video doorbell may be asked for their footage with a warrant from local authorities.
The Aosu Video Doorbell Ultra and Wi-Fi HomeBase does not have any monthly fees. The Homebase has 8GB of storage and if you want to utilize their cloud data storage, it’s roughly $45 a year. The local storage can hold roughly sixty days of recordings. Facial recognition is available for roughly $69 annually.
Strong Points: No monthly fees
Weak Points: Additional homebases are not available for multi-level homes
In the box, you’ll find the doorbell, Homebase, mounting brackets, a template so you know here to drill, and a screw driver. There’s a tiny hole on the doorbell which is used for removing the back plate to expose the QR code and sync button.
The doorbell can be charged via USB-C or with pre-existing doorbell wires. According to Aosu, one charge will last roughly six months. A single charge only lasted a month during the summer/fall. We’ll have to put this to the test with Midwest winters. The manual has a QR code for downloading the Android or iOS app for your phone. You’ll need to create an account with Aosu and verify your e-mail address before configuring your doorbell.
The Aosu app will have you scan the QR code on the Homebase and you’ll need to synchronize it with the doorbell. Once paired, you’ll have to connect the Homebase to your Wi-Fi. If you lose your power or internet access, your doorbell will stop functioning until your Wi-Fi comes back online. The homebase supports 2.4 and 5GHz Wi-Fi. We have multiple floors on our house and it’s hard to hear the doorbell chime if we’re in our basement. A secondary Homebase would be nice to have, but they don’t seem to be available as of this review. Phone notifications and the ability to sync with Alexa and Google Assistant may alleviate that need but we prefer not to have open microphones listening to us 24/7.

The phone app is easy to use and allows you to view and talk through your doorbell. You can also view previously recorded video clips. It’s nice to get phone notifications about nearby activity and per Aosu, they use triple motion detection technology to avoid sending you false alarms.
Technology-wise the Aosu Video Doorbell Ultra and Wi-Fi HomeBase is pretty impressive with a 5MP camera and 166-degree field of vision. There are eight built-in 850nm infrared lights to provide adequate night-vision clarity.
The Aosu Video Doorbell Ultra and Wi-Fi HomeBase is pretty easy to setup and only takes a few minutes to get paired and phone notifications setup. We don’t have access to doorbell wires so we need to charge the doorbell for power. Though the manufacturer says a single charge can last six months, for us a charge lasted only one month. So far I’m pretty impressed with the video clarity and phone notifications. In order to replace our front doorbell, we’ll need an additional Homebase. Until then, we have video coverage by our back door.
