Thank you Zen Studios for sending us a review code!
I have reviewed and enjoyed many pinball games from Zen Studios. I especially liked the VR treatment of the Pinball FX2 tables. There are eight tables in the Star Wars Pinball VR collection and I have reviewed the pinball FX2 versions of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The other tables featured are The Mandalorian, Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, Star Wars Rebels, Masters of the Force, and Classic Collectibles.
There is really not much difference between this version and the originally released Quest edition. Oculus users will have better luck with controller support as Vive Index players need to use an Xbox controller since their controllers are not supported. I was pleasantly surprised to feel the haptic vibrations while using my Rift S controllers. There are many negative Steam reviews regarding the lack of controller support and some blurry visuals. I did experience some awkward menu navigation controls, but the game ran well for me overall.
Strong Points: Eight pinball tables that are themed after various Star Wars movies and shows
Weak Points: Awkward controls (No Index Controller support); menu interface glitches
Moral Warnings: Ship combat and lightsaber battles; no blood shown; references to The Force
The game begins with you standing in your fan cave. In the beginning, it’s not much to look at, but as you play the various tables, you’ll unlock posters and decorations to geek it out. The jukebox will be populated with multiple John Williams masterpieces to listen to at your convenience.
Before you play your first pinball game, you’ll have to choose to represent the Light Side or the Dark Side. As you earn points for your side their fleet will grow and be noticeable above the pinball cabinet. If you have a change of heart, you can change your allegiance at any time. There is one pinball table in the room and from that one you can select which VR enhanced pinball game to play. I like how there will be ships flying in the background, robots rolling around, and recreated actors walking about as you play the various pinball tables.
Some of the pinball tables have more eye candy than others. I thought the Episode IV A New Hope table was rather plain. My favorite table was Episode V The Empire Strikes Back which whisked me away into lightsaber training with a drone and battling against Darth Vader. All of the tables have multiple flippers to keep an eye on. Most of them have bumpers which are great for racking up points. If you get a high score that you’re proud of, you can see how you stack up against your friends and the world on the leader boards.

Many of the tables have voice clips directly from the various shows and movies. I think some other voice actors were used to record pinball specific lines though. I’m happy to report that many of John Williams’ pieces are in the game and definitely immerse you into the Star Wars environment.
Some Steam reviews mention blurry visuals. I didn’t have any issues like that using my Oculus Rift S. I like that ability to decorate your fan cave with various posters and décor to spruce it up to your liking. The tables and background effects looked good to me.
Morally this game is no different than the movies. You’ll see spaceship battles and lightsaber duels. There’s no blood or gore thankfully. Not surprisingly, there are many references to using the Force.
If you enjoy Star Wars and pinball games from Zen Studios, this is a great collection to get if you’re an Oculus VR headset owner. Valve Index users may want to think twice since their controllers are not supported natively.
