Thank you Saint Games for sending us this game to review!

Moses Escape from Egypt is the first game released by Saint Games, a one-man studio.  I’m impressed with what they have done with limited resources!  Moses Escape from Egypt is a point and click adventure style game that throws in some Bible Trivia questions to progress the story.  There are four levels altogether and each one has a nicely narrated Bible passage to help set the stage.

I wish the levels gave the player some objectives to make the game more immersive with the Bible story behind it. I was going through the motions with no attachment to my character or story. I'm used to adventure style games that make a connection between the player and the main character in the game.  This game feels a bit more like Myst where the player doesn't know exactly what to do or why and is left to explore and figure out the puzzles within.  Some of the puzzles are logical while others didn't make any sense to me.  Fox example, finding and putting missing letters in their place seems perfectly logical.  Using a hammer to open toolboxes and cupboards doesn't make much sense to me.  Actually, I’d be pretty angry if my kids used that logic.

Highlights:

Strong Points: Educational and family friendly game
Weak Points: Short gameplay, no direction
Moral Warnings: None!

Hammers aside, this is a pretty safe game for kids.  While you can die in the game, it’s not dramatic and there is no blood, even if you die by a spiked floor.  There’s plenty to learn and Moses Escape from Egypt is quite short if you can figure out all of the puzzles.  If you’re stuck, there’s not much of a community and no online walkthroughs.  The developer will apparently add them to the website soon.   In the meantime, he’s pretty responsive via email.

The graphics get the job done but many of the areas are bland and lack detail.  On the flipside, the background music and sound effects are pleasant to listen to.  The voice acting is done by a woman, and given the limited budget, I wonder if it was the developer‘s wife.  She has a nice voice regardless.

Score Breakdown:
Higher is better
(10/10 is perfect)

Game Score - 68%
Gameplay - 10/20
Graphics - 6/10
Sound - 8/10
Stability - 5/5
Controls - 5/5 Morality Score - 100%
Violence - 10/10
Language - 10/10
Sexual Content - 10/10
Occult/Supernatural - 10/10
Cultural/Moral/Ethical - 10/10

Having made a game myself, I can understand working with limited resources. While this game is Unity based, it's not utilizing the engine's full potential. The game I made was in 2D and 3D is much more difficult to pull off, let alone single handedly.  If you want to support Christian developers like Saint Games, this game won’t break your bank.

Moses Escape from Egypt sells for $4.  Be warned that this game can be beaten in an hour or less with little replay value.  There is some room for improvement and I gave the developer a few suggestions.  I honestly can’t say with certainty if this game will be updated or not.  It’s a good start and I hope to see more from Saint Games.
