Thank you Sekai Project for sending us this game to review!

Animal Trail ☆ Girlish Square is an underground idol group trying to get their name out there and increase their fan base. What makes them unique is that each of the members is possessed by an animal being that changes their appearance and personality. These animals are actually from a different planet and need to collect human happiness to recharge their crystal to save their world. What better way than create an idol group?

The leader of the group, Haneru has previous idol experience and the main character, Taiga (often called Tiger), has been a fan of hers throughout her idol career. Upon discovering Haneru’s true identity, the magic from the animals was rendered ineffective against wiping his memories. Since he knew their secret and was their number one fan, he was hired to be their manager and promoter.

Highlights:

Strong Points: Good voice acting and artwork
Weak Points: Only a handful of choices and routes; a lot of repeated text in the different routes; approximately five hours of gameplay; the game does not exit properly
Moral Warnings: Adult patch available outside of Steam; extremely tight and revealing clothes are worn by the characters; all of the females in this game have big breasts; lots of language and taking the Lord’s name in vain; sex outside of marriage in implied in the censored Steam version

Taiga must get to know the girls and help them become a successful group. In order to do that, he must take each of the girls on a date and capture some promotional photos of them. The dating order will determine which of the two possible routes/endings you’ll see. To save time, you can skip through previously read text. All in all, you should be able to complete all of the routes and unlock all of the CG art in less than five hours.

The art is well done in Animal Trail ☆ Girlish Square, but it is very adult in some areas. For starters, all of the females are obnoxiously endowed with huge breasts. Some of the girls are in danger of “popping out” if they were to sneeze. Haneru wears a swimsuit-like undergarment that is so tight that you see the outline of her female anatomy. If a male were to wear such an outfit, you would instantly be able to tell if he was “intact” or not.

The censored Steam version of this game alludes to a sexual encounter, but thankfully, nothing is shown without an 18+ DLC patch installed. Language is used throughout the game and stops just short of the F-bomb. Every other word and the Lord’s name used in vain can be seen.

(10/10 is perfect)

Game Score - 68%
Gameplay: 10/20
Graphics: 8/10
Sound: 7/10
Stability: 5/5
Controls: 4/5

Morality Score - 54%
Violence: 8/10

Sexual Content: 3/10
Occult/Supernatural: 5/10
Cultural/Moral/Ethical: 10/10

Steam cloud is not available, and if you want to play on other computers, you’ll have to manually transfer over your save. For some reason, Animal Trail ☆ Girlish Square would not exit properly and I had to end the task every time I left the game.

Compared to other visual novels I’ve played, Animal Trail ☆ Girlish Square seems half-baked with a lot of repeated content and only a couple of routes. The ability to skip through previously read text is a huge time saver.

If you don’t mind a mediocre story and partial character development, Animal Trail ☆ Girlish Square is worth considering on sale perhaps. The artwork is good, but a bit too sexually detailed for my tastes. If you’re struggling with lust, I would give Animal Trail ☆ Girlish Square a hard pass.
