Thank you Turtle Beach for sending us this Switch 2 case to review!

Somehow, Nintendo manages to make every new console release an event that draws even old, jaded gamers like me out to the store to buy a new console on launch day. Fortunately for us, the Switch 2 had plenty of stock, so my wife and I both bought a Switch 2. And said Switch 2 carries with it plenty of improvements, like a larger screen, and longer, more ergonomic Joy Cons. Along with these changes came a few unexpected surprises, one being that Switch cases no longer fit our new console, despite the Switch in the name. Thankfully, companies like Turtle Beach (formerly PDP) make high-quality, licensed cases for our new console that protect the expensive stuff inside, and look great doing it.

Before I had this case in for review, I was using the jumbo-sized PDP Pokeball Commuter Case, which is a case meant for the original Switch, but had pockets galore. I could fit the Switch 2 in there with one Joy Con removed, but it was a tight fit and clearly not meant for the task. With that said, I stored a whole lot in there: Joy Con straps, a charging brick, and even a portable third-party dock. This PlayTrek Travel Case is a lot smaller, but a bit wider. While I was concerned that not everything would fit, I'm grateful to say that my concerns were unfounded - this thing can pack so much!

The Mario Bricks styling is quite sharp, and draws attention to itself. Maybe that's what you want, but if you want a more discrete Switch 2 case when traveling, consider another color. With that said, the outside is bright red, with a prominent Super Mario logo on the bottom side. The top side has the lenticular face with the sharp-looking bricks and Mario art that looks quite striking. My daughter thought it looked really neat the first time she saw it, and I do too. Unfortunately, lenticular lenses are just plastic, so they are pretty easy to scratch. Sadly, I've already scratched mine. There is a green carrying handle, and yellow and blue zipper tassels. With the red, green, blue, yellow and even black accents, it's very colorful and eye-catching. It's not easy to lose!

Highlights:

Strong Points: Striking design that draws attention; protects the Switch 2 really well; single large netting pouch on the inside holds far more than you would expect; compact despite what it can hold
Weak Points: Lenticular front color looks great, but unfortunately easy to scratch

Once you open it up, it's much more muted inside, where it's mostly black with some blue highlights. On the bottom side, there is a place to put your Switch 2, and not much else. There's a Velcro strap meant to cover the screen with a rigid, flat felt pad, which should protect it. On the other side of that felt card is a bunch of elastic cartridge holders that can accept up to twelve Switch 1 or 2 game cartridges. Certainly a nice inclusion.

What really makes this case special is that the top half has a large zipper pocket that covers the entire top half, with a single opening that is just one big zipper. This pouch can hold far more than meets the eye. I was able to fit not just an AC power adapter, but a couple of USB cables, the Joy Con straps/mouse adapters, and even my MayFlash Magic-NS adapter without issue. While it was a tight fit, I also managed to fit my third-party Switch 2 USB dock and folding stand!

You see, I used to carry a small USB-C dock with my Switch 1 so I could plug into a TV in a pinch if I ever needed that. While none of those USB docks work on Switch 2, I found some on Amazon that do. They are a bit larger than the older style ones. The other issue is that you can only plug them into the bottom port, but I am able to use an old folding Switch stand that my kids got me many years ago. The two together is a very tight fit, but it all fits in this case!

So, I was not only able to fit in the standard accessories, but I was also able to make this case carry my portable docking station. This met my required minimum for using it permanently going forward - and so I am. I love this case!

The Turtle Beach PlayTrek Travel Case for Nintendo Switch 2 is a fantastic case that is just large enough for me to cart around my essential extras without making me leave anything too important at home. While it would be nice to have room to pack a Pro Controller or the Joy Con 2 Grip, it's also small enough that it can be tossed aside or thrown in a bag without issue. It's very protective, with a molded structure that should keep the Switch 2 safe from most normal accidents. It's a great case and highly recommended!
