Thank you be quiet! for providing this PSU for review!
Over a year ago, I decided to upgrade my GPU and found that my 750W PSU was just on the border of being too weak to handle the transient spikes of my new choice. I needed to get something better if I was serious about driving it, so I settled on the be quiet! Pure Power 12 M 850W since it was on sale, then handed down my PSU to a friend for an upgrade. Now, I am blessed to have the opportunity to do the same again, but this time with the be quiet! Pure Power 13 M 1000W PSU.
be quiet!’s Pure Power 13 M series are single-rail, ATX 3.1 spec modular PSUs with an 80 PLUS Gold efficiency rating and Platinum Cybernetics ratings, as well as support for the PCIe 5.1 12V-2x6 600W connector that GPUs like NVIDIA’s 50-series use. This is an upgrade from the Pure Power 12 M series, which were multi-rail, ATX 3.0 spec PSUs with the PCIe 5.0 12VHPWR 600W connector, an older connector lacking revised safety features in the new 12V-2x6. The PSU also has a near-silent 120mm semi-passive fan that helped it earn an A++ rating in Cybernetics’ noise test, the highest possible rating they offer. Even in heavy loads, you’ll struggle to make out any noise coming from the PSU.

Strong Points: Quality build and cabling; silent operation; modular options
Weak Points: Cables can be a bit stiff; price might be a bit much outside of a sale
The Pure Power 13 M comes in be quiet!’s standard packaging with the PSU and cables neatly packed and protected. The PSU looks great and feels better in your hands. The weight of the unit and the thick, rounded metal encapsulating it feels premium and inspires confidence in its quality. The included IEC power cable is incredibly thick and doesn’t feel like it’d crimp or break easily.
The modular aspect of the Pure Power 13M lets you choose what cables you need for your build with ease. The included PSU cables are high-quality and feel solid, but the tubing on them is a bit stiff so it isn’t as easy to bend them as needed for cable routing, however this does mean there’s less risk of crimping them and damaging cables. This is especially important in the context of the 12V-2x6 connector, a connector that has been marred in controversy due to bent or improperly seated cables causing pins to lose contact and potentially damage the PSU and GPU. For me, with two full-size 3.5” drives, a GPU with the 12V-2x6 connector, and a motherboard requiring two 8-pin CPU connections, the options available on the PSU were more than sufficient.

Besides that one blemish, I have no other complaints with my be quiet! Pure Power 13 M. It’s a fantastic PSU with great specs and impressive results that feels high quality in every regard. As of writing this, it’s currently on sale for $111 on Amazon, and I believe that’s an incredible price for such a great PSU. However, if it’s closer to its seeming MSRP of $200, I’d recommend looking at the offerings from competitors and seeing if they provide better value.
