Thank you hap inc. for sending us this game to review!
Mom Hid My Game! came to the US in 2018 on various consoles including the 3DS, PS4, and Switch. It has thirty levels and was well received. I haven’t played the original, but I’ve enjoyed checking out its successor. The sequel has fifty levels and the same mischievous boy who is trying to take back his 3DS-like system that his mom hid from him as punishment.
Each level has an area or two that potentially have the coveted gaming system. Sometimes the device is simply in a drawer, or under a pillow, while other levels have more complex solutions. One of the more interactive levels involves flying a drone with only the A button to go higher and avoiding various obstacles by flying above or below them until it reaches the console.
Strong Points: Creative puzzles and cute concept
Weak Points: Can be completed in a little over an hour
Moral Warnings: The objective is to defy your mother’s wishes and avoid punishment
If you locate your mother instead of the handheld system, you fail the level. Annoying your sister or grandfather will result in failure too. If you see your sister’s pudding in the fridge, leave it alone!
Some of the puzzles have logical solutions like using a leaf blower to uncover the gaming system under a pile of leaves. Other levels have more abstract resolutions like using a speech bubble as a cutting tool. There is a built-in hint system that comes in handy for the trickier puzzles. Some levels have two hints available. In order to unlock a hint, you’ll have to play a ‘Memory’ game to match two lightbulb cards with the same background color (teal or pink). For the final level with a word game I had to consult a helpful YouTube walkthrough video (
) to get the solution.

Visually, this game is similar to other hap inc. titles. The baby blue backdrop and characters are similar if not identical to other games of theirs. The background music is simple and repetitive, but fitting. There is minimal voice acting and the majority of it is in Japanese. I can understand a handful of the words.
From a moral perspective this game’s premise revolves around disobedience and bypassing your punishment.
If you’re okay with bypassing your punishment and disobeying your mother, Mom Hid My Game! 2 is worth looking into. It won’t entertain you very long, but it’s fun while it lasts. The asking price of $4.99 is reasonable.
