Rain on Your Parade begins with a grandpa telling his grandchild a bedtime story about a cloud he met once. Naturally, the grandchild thinks that clouds are boring and the grandfather vows to prove him wrong with this tale. The cloud you play as is hoping to roam free and rain on anything they want and at any time. Cloudy will travel the world, but will spend most of its time in Seattle, which is fitting for a rain cloud. Each of the fifty plus levels has primary a objective that has to be met in order to complete the level. There are also hidden objectives that will unlock accessories you can dress up your cloud with. Along with equipping various hats, glasses, and instruments, you can draw a custom face on the cloud.
There’s usually a water meter on the right-hand side that shows the amount of water you have left. You can often refill this meter at fountains, bodies of water, or toilets. You can also change the substance you rain by hovering over it. For example, you can spread oil and other chemicals to cause and manipulate fires.
Strong Points: Over fifty levels that mixes things up enough to keep the game fun; humorous dialogue
Weak Points: Some of the levels are more fun/creative than others
Moral Warnings: Cartoon violence; potty humor; one level has zombies; almost swearing; mention of "god"
At first, Cloudy only has the ability to rain. As the game progresses, the cloud will learn how to thunder, snow, and create tornadoes. Each of these abilities will come into play for the various missions and objectives. Some of the objectives are simple like getting a certain number of people wet or turned into snowballs. Other levels have multiple objectives that have to be completed along with some optional ones.
Since many of the objectives revolve around destruction and being a jerk, I wouldn’t consider Cloudy a good hero. With that said, Cloudy does have a nemesis called Dr. Dryspell. Dr. Dryspell hates rain and has several levels with turrets that the cloud needs to get past. One of the final levels is tower defense based and requires defending Seattle from waves of enemies. While Cloudy may be the city’s hero, there another level where it’s the primary cause of the dinosaur’s extinction.
For the most part, the violence in this game is cartoon-like and not gory. You get to zap people and animals with lightning. In the case of dinosaurs, it's fatal. One of the horror-themed levels requires you to make zombies and enlist the city-folk into your zombie army. On a sillier note, there’s a level that has you raining down toast luring pigeons to poop on people. For comedic effect there is some cut off swearing like "shi...stuff" and there is a mention of "god".

There’s a lot of variety in this game and the silly dialogue is funny and light-hearted. The colorful visuals are sure to catch the eyes of little ones and for the most part, this game is safe to play for people of all ages. There is an online leaderboard for comparing level scores. Your mileage may vary on the usernames, but from what I’ve seen they’ve been pretty tame.
I’ve completed the main story in roughly five hours and that’s including a level where I had to stay still for a while. Even though I took a shower and left my computer for a bit, I was nowhere near the top of the global leaderboard for that level. After completing the game, a New Game+ mode unlocks with additional levels and adventures. I like the Zelda-inspired RPG level.
Overall, Rain on Your Parade is a charming and fun game that’s bound to put a smile on your face. The asking price of $14.99 is reasonable and it’s worth adding to your Steam Wishlist if you plan on waiting for a sale.
