Xrucifix interview
CCGR:
Recently I have seen a new logo on the TGS site, are you guys changing your name? If so, why?
?MackXX?:
Yes, as many people have noticed Two Guys Software had recently changed it\'s name to XrucifiX. The name is to reflect the company growing and maturing over the years, we are no longer just \'two guys\' (haven\'t been that for a while). People can still reach the site at www.twoguyssoftware.ca but can also reach us at www.xrucifix.com.
CCGR:
Very cool. So what has changed since the release of Eternal War: Shadows of Light? I assume it has been successful?
?MackXX?:
Media wise Eternal War: Shadows of Light has seen alot so it\'s been successful in that area. We still get alot of positive feedback about the game from people. For the most part we\'ve been focused on developing our new title, Eternal War: Nightmares.
CCGR:
How has the development of Eternal War: Nightmares been going? What is the anticipated release date?
?MackXX?:
\'Nightmares\' has been going well, we just secured a license for the Reality Engine by Artificial Studios (www.artificialstudios.com) so we can focus on the game play rather than upgrading the graphics of our previous Nightmares engine. Reality is a DirectX 9 built engine, so players can expect all the graphical advances of today?s and tomorrows titles (normal mapping, real time lighting, bloom, etc.).. We also have a fully working real time physics engine already in.
Currently we?re working on an internal multiplayer build. So far the plan is to release a version of our new multiplayer mode and build on it from public feedback while working on the single player. The date for the public multiplayer build hasn?t been set.
CCGR:
Tell us a little about multiplayer. What types of modes will there be? What feedback have you gotten?
?MackXX?:
We\'re still planning our previously announced multiplayer modes. To recap; Free For All, Capture the Flag, Cooperative and Demon Hunters. Demon Hunters is the name of our new multiplayer mode and was built off of feedback that players gave us when we did our ?information poll? several months ago. It?s going to be a team-based objective style game play.
CCGR:
That sounds like fun! How will single player work? Is there a story? What kind of characters? weapons? missions?
?MackXX?:
Single player is story based and told in a series of chapters, each chapter is a different area and played with one of three main characters in Nightmares. The story is told with in-game sequences rather than the text-based screens we had in Shadows of Light.
(14:26:45) ?MackXX?: The three characters;
Mike; Solider. Mike will be the medium class character, your loyal and faithful standby that you?ve seen in Eternal War: Shadows of Light.
Raquel; Powerhouse. If you want tough then Raquel would be the best choice. She?s a hot headed, heavily armored, in-your-face character ready to stomp some demonic hide.
Shin; Stealth. The non-gender (?it?) character of Eternal War: Nightmares, Shin deals with speed, quietness and keeps to itself.
Weapons; We?re adding new Angelic Powers along with some modified favorites from Shadows of Light. We have a physics manipulating Power in the game that allows you to grab/throw objects and seize enemies. We?re also expanding on the idea of the crossbow you saw in Shadows of Light and having Angelic Weapons.
They?ll be in various forms, with organic, animal, technology (of old, modern and future) all mixed together.
Missions; The single player missions are going to be a lot more different than what you saw in Shadows of Light. More information on that later.
CCGR:
Sounds great, glad to see a female character. I\'m assuming she has adequate armor? Any idea on how many missions there will be?
?
?MackXX?:
Raquel is using a large heavy armor suit, for melee combat she primarily uses a large double edged long sword and tower shield.
Currently we have 18 missions planned but nothing completely finalized yet.
CCGR:
Will there be blood or gore? If so can it be disabled?
?MackXX?:
We might do something similar to the first versions of Shadows of Light where demons ?bled? their corruption/sin when attacked with a weapon. If we do go ahead with that it will have a disable option. We?re not going to have any gore.
CCGR:
Do you plan on releasing a demo? If so any idea on when it will be available?
?MackXX?:
We plan on releasing an early version of Demon Hunters to the public to get feedback and build on it continuously. We may add one single player mission to that when we are close to retail release. No publically announced time yet.
CCGR:
Are there any screenshots available or is there a site where readers can get more information on Nightmares?
?MackXX?:
We\'ll be releasing more information and screenshots in the future. Players can also visit our forums (www.xrucifix.com/gamers) or the CCGR forums (www.ccgr.org) where we\'ll drop in and post information.
CCGR:
Has the game price been established? Any news on a publisher?
?MackXX?:
No set retail price as of yet. We are actively seeking publishers.
CCGR:
Are you guys still doing the voice acting?
?MackXX?:
We\'ll probably use in-team voices for test usage and find people to do the voices properly later on in development.
CCGR:
Any word on background music?
?MackXX?:
We haven\'t decided anything on background music as of yet.
CCGR:
Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions. I look forward to checking out Nightmares!
