Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3: Slime Speedway is the third entry to the series and it keeps on getting better and better, though still falling short of the ever-popular Mario Kart. Along with an updated character roster, voice acting has been added to this entry. Various vehicles ranging from motorcycles, 4 wheelers, hover boards and watercrafts will help you navigate the ever-changing maps inspired by Nickelodeon’s popular TV shows.
Upon launching the game, you’ll get to choose between single player, multiplayer and online mode. Sadly, online mode is dead. Your only hope at racing against others is if you have friends or family nearby and enough controllers for four people to play alongside you. If not, you can race against bots of varying difficulty in the single player mode.
Single player offers several game modes including Slime Scramble, Free Race, Time Trial, Challenges and Arena. In Slime Scramble, you must complete a set of four races. If you do well enough, you’ll earn up to three stars per round. A final set of races will be unlocked after you earn a star in the previous ones.
Strong Points: Forty-two playable characters and 90 crew members; thirty-six tracks with multiple routes to explore
Weak Points: Online multiplayer is dead; confusing controls with no option to remap them
Moral Warnings: Vehicular cartoon violence; potty humor
Free Race lets you determine the rules of the race. You get to select the difficulty of the bots (slow, medium, fast), the size of the pit crew, number of laps, and the option for double dare challenges. Time Trial helps you practice on the tracks to master them. Try to get the best score all alone or race against the ghost of your previous run!
There are six challenge levels that have five challenges and a boss battle at the end. If you can complete all of the challenges and beat the boss, you’ll unlock a new playable character. Some of the challenges include not touching walls or rough terrain to overtaking a certain number of competitors in a fixed amount of time. Some of these challenges live up to their name and are difficult to complete! If you’re struggling to complete them, you can still buy additional characters in the garage as long as you have enough slime tokens handy.
The garage also lets you purchase different vehicles, wheels, exhaust pipes, crewmembers, and paint jobs. The character and vehicle upgrades impact stats like weight, speed, acceleration, handling, and turbo so keep an eye on those when making your selections!
The Arena Mode has four game styles. In Demolition you have to hit opponents ten times to win. Control the Golden Spatula requires you to have the golden spatula in your possession for fifteen seconds at three different times to win. Slime Trails is similar to Splatoon where you have to cover the majority of the map with your slime color. In Jellyspotters you’ll be assigned as a jellyspotter or a jellyfish. If you’re a spotter you must catch the jellyfish. If you’re a jellyfish, you must avoid being caught.
No matter which mode you play, slime still plays a big role in this game. As you drive through it, your slime gauge will fill and when it’s full you can unleash a powerful attack. The type of attack is determined by which crewmembers you have assigned. For example, having Shredder as a crew member grants you a rotating claws attack.

I was impressed with the colorful and detailed map design in this entry. There are often multiple routes to take and they are obviously themed to different cartoon franchises. The level design is well done and these tracks are fun to race on.
The background music is peppy and the cartoon sound effects are fitting for this franchise. Voice acting has been added and it gives life to the characters. However, if you hover over a menu too long, they get a bit repetitive rather quickly.
Like the previous entries, Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3: Slime Speedway is pretty family-friendly, but it’s worth noting that there is some cartoon violence and potty humor.
Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3: Slime Speedway is fun, but shares the same pitfall as the previous entry. The biggest downfall of this game is the lack of online players. If you don’t mind playing solo or with nearby friends, it’s worth looking into.
