Don't need more than a pen torch, they sell ring sized bar stock. Mostly a matter off hammering it around a mandrel.

You do pay an elevated price with a jeweler, but there are a couple things to consider. I used Kay and I felt I did pretty well in terms of diamond to price for my wife's engagement ring. I got financing through them at 0% so that helped spread the cost around. They also provide periodic free cleanings and inspections, and waranties for the diamond and ring. A little piece of mind.

Also, monopolized scam diamonds are a scam (Some language and stuff).

I don't think the jeweler's will be touting those 2 C's, but certainly important from a consumer standpoint!
