I have several of the Lego games on various platforms so obviously really enjoy them. I recently picked up "Lord of the Rings" and I think it is my favorite of the bunch. The quest system, the huge, open world play area, the voices and how closely they followed the movies, the darker feel to the game....these kinda set it apart and I feel add to the game being my favorite.
I know the voices may go against the whole Lego theme, but as a fan of the movie, this game really feels more cinematic and intense by adding in the actual lines from the movie.
I thought I'd get tired of them and they would all feel the same, but I still find each episode enjoyable.

My daughter and I did the Star Wars Complete Saga as co-op. it was a ton of fun as we worked on the puzzles together. Some would stump us and eventually one of us would figure it out. We don't have the the newer Clone Wars one.

I did really enjoyed the old Lego Creator, Lego Racers, Lego Island 1 & 2, and Lego Rock Raider games.
As for the Lego games done by Travelers Tale,
I played quite a few of them and am not sure which one I like the most.
The Lego Starwars games were fun. Also the Lego Lord of the Rings are great too,
I also really like how it had an open world. (Ride horses throughout Middle Earth in search for secrets? Yes!)
I am thinking of trying the second Lego Batman game when I see it on a sale.

Played Lego Star Wars 1 & 2 (100% completed both) and Lego Indiana Jones 1 & 2 (100% completed the first) with my brother quite a bit. All of them are pretty good. Some of the older online Lego/Bionicle games where pretty awesome as well. I'll give a shutout to the http://biomediaproject.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; where they are working on gathering the games and other media that Lego removed from their website for people to download. The game archive packs on the Project Brick section contain the Lego games. They are working on adding the Lego games for individual downloads among other stuff.

LEGO Racer was the bomb, man. Build your own car? Can it get any better? They even had it for N64 (maybe PS1?). I also had LEGO island growing up, and played the crap out of it. Never played the sequel, though.
Now, I own the Star Wars LEGO games, or at least the prequel trilogy (my girlfriend's family has both). It's kind of awesome how enjoyable these games are for kids and adults. My future kids and I are so having quality time in the form of these games XD
Not gonna lie, they're gonna have some dynamite kits to play with, too.
...
Yes, I will buy them "for the kids." >_> <_<
