Disclaimer: I know almost nothing about tabletop-gaming, but I thought I would create this post because I had my first gaming experience last night and I quite enjoyed myself.

My friend who likes to run games has been trying to convince me to play with him for a long time, so finally I decided to join him and his wife and a couple other friends of mine to play a game of Savage Worlds (I think it also had something to do with pirates, but as I've mentioned, I know nothing about tabletop gaming) and we had the quintessential bevy of chips, soda, and pizza.

Being new to the game, I didn't want to go with any character that was too confrontational, so my friend helped me create a dwarf (named Grobthar, naturally) with strengths in healing. In case you were wondering, we also had an elf named Rhyanon (Rhya for short), a human named Janet, and an Atlantean named Neptor. We embarked on two quests, total. The first was a slightly anticlimactic venturing on to Spider Island (my GM friend, trying to save the mystery, described them as "squishy wolves" which left all of us confused), but ending with us saving a shipwreck survivor and safely making it back to Captain Corwin.

The second task was less of a quest and more of a happening - our ship was caught between a storm and being chased by goblin pirates who ended up boarding our ship and committing general mayhem. Through a series of improvisations we were able to stave them off, but admittedly, I find the combat in the game to be slightly tedious, but maybe that would change with more experience and a character with more XP.

Anyway, on the whole I had a good time, but I can't imagine becoming entrenched enough in the system of these games to be able to run one. I feel like it also might have helped to play with more experienced players, as the greater majority of my table-mates had also never played before but seemed similarly along with the ride - so maybe if I was with people who would be able to really get into character, it might have made it more intense and exciting, but I also enjoyed how laid back our game was, just talking and laughing and trying to figure out the solutions to our problems.

Anyway, that's my story. Thanks for listening! :)

Sounds like a good time, haven't played Savage Worlds (my table top gaming is extremely limited). Thanks for sharing. :)
