I just programmed something in C++

Barely, and following a tutorial, and I probably couldn't do it again from memory. And when ran it just displayed the text 'Hello World', (and once I got my grubby fingers around a very basic understanding), "ALL YOUR COMPUTER IS ASPLODE IN 27 minutes. Minutes NOT MINUTES."

BUT DADGUMMIT IT FELT GEWD.

You have started down a path toward great power. Use judgement, padawan, for overconfidence leads to the dark side. The easy way is not always the right way, and often leads to memory leaks.

To me, the entire process felt like dark magic that could've gone off in my face at any moment.

Not sure if dem's fighting words.

I'm just trying to get my feet wet in the arcane programming world before college hits and leaves me smeared against the wall. Though I think I'm actually going to be learning visual basic first, so I may go look that up.

My C++ textbook arrived a few days ago. 1000 pages of programming goodness. :)
@Cheryl: Thanks for a wonderful community. It is a pleasure and honor to be a part of it.

Too remote.

No, C++ will do nicely.

You were telling him about Buddha, you were telling him about Mohammed in the same breath. You never mentioned one time the Man who came and died a criminal’s death...

And when you go to learn .NET, you get your lobotomy and Microsoft Borg implants.

Come unto the Java world, young grasshopper. Our software is free, our compilers are free, our development tools are free...

... it's all free. Microsoft makes you pay for everything... a LOT.

Join us. We are the Rebel Alliance and we will destroy the .NET Death Star.

(Love ya, Arch :mrgreen: You know, Han Solo was an Imperial officer before he saw the light...)

Yeah, but then you have to write in... Java. With that whole java api thing, too.

No choice. :P It's just what the college does. I plan on learning a few others though, just make my resume perhaps stand out a bit when I gradjiate.
