Thanks!

No I haven't actually played it yet, but I'm told there's a good, strong, active community in my area so getting in games shouldn't be too hard.

I picked USSR because I really admire the Russian spirit during WWII. 1/8 of their population was wiped out in that war yet these people still knew nothing about giving up.

It's roughly 1/100. Here's an AWESOME page that discusses scales between plastic models and wargaming. I first found it when I was building my Bolt Action force, which is a 28mm game. The tanks were way expensive but by using this site I was able to find out what scale of plastic models would be the equivalent.

So a few new things have happened. With the demise of Warhammer Fantasy Battles my gaming group has moved on to Age of Sigmar and Kings of War. I'm in the Kings of War camp, myself, since I like the blocks of troops and formations and stuff, which WHFB had but AoS doesn't. Since Mantic Games (The guys who publish Kings of War) are creating army lists for use with the former WHFB factions, I'm eagerly looking forward to playing my Bretonnians as "The Brotherhood," as the faction will be known in KoW.

We've started a new campaign with the setting being my D&D world, so as I start to renovate my Bretonnians into The Brotherhood I'm giving them a helping of D&D fluff. Since the fluff in Warhammer had it that the Bretonnian religion was all just a sham by an Elven goddess to use Bretonnia to her ends, the knights of my army need a new deity. That's come in the form of Torm, an old classic deity character from D&D and he's the god of chivalry, justice, honor and Paladins. (This god also sacrificed himself and was resurrected in days. Sound familiar?) Perfect for my knights. So in the fluff I wrote for the army, the leader of my force encounters Torm himself, mounted upon his golden dragon, and is bestowed the honor of being Torm's Champion, and has all new livery and heraldry. So, I took an incomplete Bretonnian Lord mini and painted him up to reflect this story. His heraldry is the right gauntlet, sigil of Torm from D&D, and he also bears the crest of the dragon, in recognition of Torm's golden dragon mount.

Also, I'm selling a bunch of my stuff that I won't be using on eBay, so to photograph it all and make it look great, I bought a lightbox, and used it to photograph this new character I made as well.

So, without further ado, I present Renee' The True, Champion of Torm:

Phenomenal paint jobs! ^_^ Your colors and details are so clean. That's a really cool looking model, too. Did you freehand those gauntlets?

I like your custom fluff a lot too! I've always planned to think up one for my Cygnarmy, but it's come to nothing thus far.

Thanks guys!

I love that lightbox. It was only $11 and some of the best money I ever spent. It came with 4 colors for the background (red, blue, black and white) and it's super easy to use.

Yes, the gauntlets are freehand. I thought about making custom decals but since it was only going to be a single model, I decided against it. The model itself is the same cast as the one I used for Guy deLyonesse but with different modifications. On Guy, the lance and the helmet crest were both changed, and the script added to the shield. On Renee' I kept the model mostly original since it had the dragon crest on the helm and the dragon-ish lance, but I gave him a bigger shield and added the script.

Awesome. ^_^ Did you convert that, or was it part of a kit?

It looks great, and I continue to be amazed by your awesome freehanding skills. O_o You can clearly see all four fingers, and a knuckle on the thumb. XD That's a crazy level of detail.

Thanks! You are too kind, sir.

It isn't much of a conversion, being this model but with a different shield and with the scripts added to it. The other one I did as Guy had some cutting and slicing involved though.

Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed in the direction Games Workshop has gone... The Age of Sigmar models look gross.
I only have a Bretonnia Battalion, but I was always wanting to pick up more units at a later date.... now though...

I might look into that Kings of War instead.

You should. Next month Mantic is releasing a book with lists for all of the factions from Warhammer Fantasy. The Bretonnian faction is called "The Brotherhood." Even though the book isn't out yet, their online army builder already includes those armies.

I like the Age of Sigmar models, honestly. They look like spess mahrines got transmutated with Thor. :P At least with the Sigmarines, if you painted them right, I almost think you could use them in 40K.

But I haven't put any time or money into WHFB, so it's different for me, I think. I love Mantic's model line too.

The only problem with Mantic minis is the plastic they've been using doesn't work with model cement, and some of the sculpts aren't great. I had bought a box of Basilean Spearmen to use as Bretonnian Men-At-Arms a couple years ago and the arms on the spearmen were so long they looked like gorillas. The quality may have improved over the last couple years though so hopefully I'm wrong.

Interesting. I wonder if it's resin of some sort?

I've only ever assembled Privateer Press stuff, mostly in metal, so I'm not sure I can relate.

Well, I'm planing to put together a Warhammer Quest set, since purchasing one of Ebay is basically out of the question due to the ridiculous prices...

Since WHFB models are on their way out, any one got some good alternatives for Orc and Goblin models? Preferably ones that will look ok next to warhammer scaled stuff, but obviously since they're not human models there is a bit of leeway.

Mantic Games, the creators of Kings of War, have a decent orc line.

Games Workshop will probably continue to sell orcs & goblins for the foreseeable future, since I'm pretty sure they'll be officially a part of the new Age of Sigmar world, but I can't say that for absolute certain.
