Thanks!

Not as often as I'd like, but I get in a game or two every month, mostly against my friends or my oldest son. He and I have only recently gotten in on the tournament scene, and so far we've been flattened... But it's how you learn to deal with a wider variety of opponents and improve your game.

So far we've only been to tournaments for Warhammer (both version) since we're relatively new to Warmachine and Malifaux.

Hehe thanks. They're supposed to be creepy. Among large, bio-enhanced angry zealot super warriors in power armor, they're the REALLY angry "RAAAGH DESTROY THE ENEMIES OF THE EMPEROR RAAAAAAGHHH" guys.

Nice.

For the record, that was a movie quote, not a disparagement of anyone's intelligence. XD

Let the record show that Chozon was not being a jerk.

(Not that it came across like that in the first place, but better to be safe than dramatic  )

Started your Warmachine yet?

so lets just say im a noob and I have wanted to play that game sense the first time Ive set my eyes on it.

Q #1: what is this game called? and are there different versions or is there a main?

Q #2: if I started playing it I would play it with my brother, what is the cheapest pieces I could get? and still have fun.

I love your art work! I like painting models my self, but this cuts the pie.

Actually, these miniatures are from different games... The first set are from Malifaux, which is a small skirmish type game. The second group are just some miscellaneous miniatures that we use when we play Dungeons & Dragons. The third are from Warmachine. The trebuchet and knights are from Warhammer Fantasy Battles, and the last bunch are Space Marines from Warhammer 40,000.

None of these games are particularly cheap, but the least expensive overall is Malifaux. You could get started with enough models for two people and the rulebook and still come in under $100. You can have a reasonable game of Malifaux for 4-8 models per side, and the main rulebook is only $15.00. Most models for Malifaux run about $10 - $15.

As for the others... Warmachine is much more expensive per model but you can still have a good game with relatively few... Maybe 15-20 models per side in an average game. The rulebook is about $35 and you'd need a specific army book for each faction which runs about $30 or so.

Both versions of Warhammer can get pretty expensive, mainly because you have huge numbers of models per side. An average game of Warhammer can easily be 50 - 100 models per side, and the cost of the rules is higher than any other game.

BUT the good news is that Warhammer Fantasy, Warhammer 40K and Warmachine all have intro box sets for beginning players that are relatively cheaper, with the box running about $100 for Warhammer and about $50 for Warmachine. (You'd still need to get the rules separately with Warmachine.) The Warhammer Fantasy box comes with a High Elf army and a Skaven army, with a smaller version of the rulebook, dice and a startup scenario.

There are a lot more miniatures game out there, but I didn't have any examples to share pics of in my collection.

There's always eBay of course, for getting this stuff cheaper, and mostly that's what I do. I got my entire Warmachine army for $100 where it would have cost me almost $400 retail, and all of it was brand new in the original boxes!
