Flap and Strap Combo

Thank you Free Agent Outfitters for sending us a review sample of the Pink Flap and Strap Combo!

When buying a laptop I make sure that I have a means of carrying it around. The Flap and Strap Combo lets you do just that! There are three sizes (small, medium, large) and colors (black, gray, pink) to choose from. The price for any combination is $49.99. The website has a handy sizing guide with various Chromebook, Surface, and MacBook models to use as a reference. As a general rule of thumb the small size should accommodate 11-12" models, medium supports up to 15" and the large is recommended for 16-17" MacBooks.

I received a medium pink model for my 14" ThinkPad laptop. The build quality is good with the flap having a canvas-like out material and an adhesive underside for maximum grip to securely hold onto your expensive laptop. The strap seems sturdy and has two metal clasps to connect through the rubber-like loops on the flap portion.

When applied to the ThinkPad it feels sturdy and I don't anticipate it losing it's grip anytime soon. The design is intended to be used once. I can imagine the adhesive not working as well if it had to be reattached. Sadly, I don't see any replacement flaps available on the website, just Flap and Strap Combos.

If you want to carry around your laptop like a purse, you'll probably appreciate the Flap and Strap Combo. From a technical standpoint I have some concerns. A laptop bag is more practical because it will protect your laptop from getting scuffed and dinged while carrying accessories like power bricks, mice, game controllers, and so forth. The Flap and Strap Combo exposes your device to the elements like rain and who knows how many scratches, dents, and scuffs may happen while being carried around like a purse. The Flap and Strap Combo's one-year warranty does not cover normal wear and tear or damage resulting from excessive stress or improper use. It also does not cover use of their products when used in combination with third party products.

Laptops generate a lot of heat and need cooling vents to dispel the hot air. The Flap and Strap Combo's design may cover many of these necessary vents. To avoid covering half of them I applied it backwards on my ThinkPad. Lastly, the Flap and Strap Combo will likely cover up screws needed to access or replace components like batteries, RAM, and storage drives.

For me the cons outweigh the convenience of carrying my laptop around like a purse. It all depends on your needs and preferences. Be sure to read through the many warnings and disclaimers on the packaging before applying it to your system.
