Thank you Rising Star Games for sending us this game to review!
Sophia's aunt passed away and she was the recipient to her antique art collection according to her will. Unfortunately, some greedy relatives got in the way and sold the art collection to private benefactors before Sophia could claim what was rightfully hers. Sophia vows to take back what is hers by stealing the paintings from the London museums. Is it wrong to take back your own belongings as long as nobody gets hurt?
As Christians we should exhaust all legal measures before taking matters into our own hands and breaking the law. 1 Peter 4:15-16 says that we should suffer as Christians and not as criminals. Lastly, Jesus states in Luke 6:30 to not demand back items taken from you. This may sound wimpy by modern day standards, but according to Romans 12:19 vengeance is the Lord's job, not ours.
Strong Points: Challenging and non-violent stealth adventure game
Weak Points: No quick or manual save ability
Moral Warnings: This game revolves around theft of artwork that should be yours
Since Sophia hasn't talked this over with God (that I'm aware of), she's on her own and will pay the consequences if she gets caught stealing her artwork back. So how does she not caught? There are many obstacles standing between the paintings and Sophia. She'll have to avoid dumb but brawny guards, guard dogs, and security cameras. This is not a violent game; there is no way to "neutralize" her enemies, so she can only distract them.
The default distraction method Sophia comes with is the ability to whistle to lure a guard into the desired direction. As the guard moves she can hide behind walls or automatically duck behind tables. Some levels have helpful objects like noise makers and teleportation devices. Guard dogs and security cameras are immune to many of the devices and have to be avoided at all costs.
The only way to escape a dog's sniffing abilities is to have Sophia run away from them. The downside to running is that it's louder than walking. Each opponent has a visible vision or sniffing range to steer clear of. If Sophia gets too close they will be on alert and will give chase if their suspicion is confirmed. Triggering a camera or guard dog alerts a guard instead of giving you a game over. Guards are difficult to out run, but not impossible. Whenever the enemy gives chase, the player will drop an item that is dear to them and they cannot leave the level without it. For Sophia it is her hat.

There are two other thieves that will join up with and assist Sophia on her quest. Each thief can collect certain types of paintings which are used to unlock new areas in the game. While Harry is slow, he's a master thief and Daisy is a pickpocket. Their abilities will come in handy on many occasions.
Each character has their own unique levels and par completion times. Most levels have multiple floors to clear before completion. You can reset your progress at any time and if you mess up on the second half, you will restart from the second part and not have to start from the very beginning. While that is nice, I would have preferred a quick save option to save the game on my own terms. The Marvellous Miss Take does utilize Steam cloud saves so that is nice. There are nineteen game achievements as well if you're into those.
The 3D art style is colorful and unique. While the guard dogs all look the same, the human guards are all unique. Each character looks, acts, and moves differently. The voice acting is generic and gibberish, but works well. The background music is pleasant to listen to despite the stress of not being detected.
Anyone who is a fan of stealth games should look into this non-violent alternative. My kids enjoyed watching me fail and tried it themselves (and failed worse than me HA!). The asking price of $19.99 is reasonable and will keep you on your toes for several hours. While this game is charming, I had to take some breaks and come back to it on several occasions. If you're bad at it like me, it may frustrate you a bit. Perhaps manual saves would make it too easy, but I would still like them regardless.
