Thank you Lightwood Games for sending us a review code!

We’ve been blessed with many opportunities to review puzzle games from Lightwood games. Wordbreaker is a new title for us and it reminds me of Wheel of Fortune. Except there is no wheel, money, or hints provided. My kids compared this game to Wordle but you have an unlimited number of guesses.

Each Wordbreaker puzzle consists of a five-letter word and you can only use letters from the alphabet once. To begin you must enter in a five-letter word of your choice and see if any of the letters you selected are in solution and if you placed them correctly. If a letter is correctly placed, it will be highlighted in purple. If a letter is in the word but in the wrong location, it will have a purple outline.

Highlights:

Strong Points: One hundred and twenty puzzles to solve
Weak Points: No hints provided
Moral Warnings: Crude language is optional, but rewarded with an achievement

My starter word of choice is “Spare”. It has a good selection of popular vowels and consonants. After my stream I tried non-family-friendly words like b*tch and p*nis. I got a Xbox achievement for trying the latter. I was in good company since over 70% of players have the same achievement. You will also get achievements for every letter of the alphabet that you use for the first time.

You’re timed on how fast you complete each puzzle. While I haven’t completed a puzzle on the first try, I have solved multiple levels on my second attempt. For replayability, you can try to solve puzzles faster.

Score Breakdown:
Higher is better
(10/10 is perfect)

Game Score - 80%
Gameplay - 15/20
Graphics - 7/10
Sound - 8/10
Stability - 5/5
Controls - 5/5

Morality Score - 97%
Violence - 10/10
Language - 8.5/10
Sexual Content - 10/10
Occult/Supernatural - 10/10
Cultural/Moral/Ethical - 10/10

Upon solving a puzzle, you’ll be treated to a bad joke/pun. An example is – “My friend got a job as a human cannonball. Didn’t take long before he was fired”.

The audio and visuals are on par with other Powgi games we’ve reviewed. There’s a couple of new tunes and some repeats. According to YouTube, the tracks are copyrighted so don’t expect to monetize any gameplay streams. The game options has a dark mode if you prefer that color scheme. Other than dark mode, the colors can't be changed.

In total, there are one hundred and twenty puzzles to solve which can keep you busy for a few hours. Some puzzles I had solved in forty five seconds or less while others took me a couple of minutes to figure out. If you think that you’ll solve these puzzles quickly, you may want to wait for a sale. Like other titles by Lightwood games, this one is pretty family-friendly. Using naughty words as your guesses is completely optional. If you enjoy games like Wordle, you’ll enjoy Wordbreaker.
