Thank you Lightwood Games for sending us a review code!
We have had the pleasure of reviewing many Powgi based games, and this is the first time we’ve played Word Web. If you have played Gogen, you’ll know what to do. For everyone else, your goal is to spell every word on the list using the letters A-Y only once. The words will not always be in a straight line.
Upon starting a puzzle, you will have several letters already placed for you and multiple columns of words that need to be spelled out with the remaining letters of the alphabet. The letters have to be adjacent but can be in multiple directions and the web of words is a little daunting at times.
Strong Points: One hundred and twenty puzzles to solve; you can check for errors
Weak Points: Corny puns
Moral Warnings: None!
Logic will be needed to figure out which circle to place the letters in. If you’re in doubt, you can press the L & R triggers to check for errors. You’re timed on how long it takes to solve a puzzle. You can pause if needed and you can replay a puzzle at a later date to see if you can beat your previous time. In total, there are one hundred and twenty puzzles to complete. Given that it took me a few minutes to solve these puzzles during my stream, it’s safe to say that this game can entertain for several hours before having to replay the puzzles. You’ll definitely get your $7.99 worth.

After completing a puzzle, you’ll be subjected to a bad joke or pun. A couple of examples include “My favorite kind of squat? Diddly” and “What do you call a bartender with an empty glass? Phil!” I’m not sure if that counts and an alcohol reference, but overall Word Web is pretty clean and safe for people of all ages to enjoy.
The visuals are crisp and on par with other Powgi titles produced by Lightwood Games. I’m quite sure I heard the same music tracks before as well. If you press the plus button mid-game you have the option to enable dark mode and disable the background music (BGM).
If you enjoy Gogen puzzles or other Powgi titles by Lightwood Games, Word Web is worth looking into. There are a fair amount of puzzles and they’re bound to keep you thinking for a while. If you’re playing on a big screen you may get unsolicited assistance as well. I highly recommend the Switch version if you’re looking for a way to pass the time at amusement parks or doctors offices.
