Not sure what your thoughts on hardstyle or Headhunterz are, but I figured you might have heard this before:

Love hardstyle (there was one particular period of time when I listened to it pretty much exclusively), but haven't kept up with new releases for almost a year now. Headhunterz are still definitely some of the most talented producers in hardstyle though,along with guys like Zany and The Prophet, and they're true to form here. Nice one, thanks for the link... I still need to get Skyrim. XD

So I seem to remember that you told me you use(d) Ableton Live.

What can you tell me about it? I'm downloading the trial now, but I'd like some thoughts or suggestions on it for first-time users.

Yeah, Ableton is still my number one sequencer.

I guess personally I would recommend that you not start with the Session view; while it's useful for live performance and getting ideas down quickly, the more traditional Arrangement view is (imo) much better for laying down tracks, especially if you've used other sequencers. It allows a lot more control when it comes to automation and stuff like that.

Beyond that, I don't really know what to say... I keep hearing that a lot of people trying Live for the first time are intimidated by all that it offers, especially if they've used other sequencers before. The amount of things you can do in Live is truly limitless; I've been using it for 6 years and am still discovering new things! Reading tutorials definitely helps when you're starting out. Also, you could try opening a sample project file (I don't know if they still include those in the official tutorial or not...) and just examine and play around with everything in it. I learned a lot from doing that when I was starting with Live.
If you ever start getting into drum programming, I would suggest something similar. Try to replicate rhythms you hear in different songs; doing that really helps give you practise in translating the beats in your head to the screen.

A big downside of the full version is the hefty price tag; however, you can get a fairly sizable discount by upgrading from a Lite version (Lite versions of Live often come with MIDI keyboards and a lot of other MIDI controllers). If you're still not ready to bite the bullet on it, I've been hearing some VERY good things about Reaper. (only $60!)

If you ever have any more questions about Live or production in general, I'd be happy to try and answer them.
