That looks almost real. O_o Not even overstating. I've seen paint on old tractors that looks exactly like that.

Do you think it would be feasible on a smaller scale, like warjacks?

I think you could probably get away with it on a Warjack, just make sure your splats of toothpaste are small, small, small. I'd also focus on mostly the lower body, lower arms and parts of the 'jack that face sort of toward the ground, basically the parts of the 'jack that would see the most wear and tear.

It might be overkill on something of that small scale though. You MIGHT be better off just flicking silver paint on the edges but the only way to really know is to try it both ways and see which way you like better. I'll try and post a couple pics of my Space Marine Dreadnought where I tried the latter approach.

I kind of want to do a really beat up, wartorn looking 'jack and make it a custom "character" jack of sorts. Where I come up with a fun story about all the various battles he's been through, and he looks beaten half to death. XD

Sounds like a great plan!

Started painting my Space Crusade Orcs

and I've almost finished the Blood Angels team:

(I have extra models due to having a complete and incomplete set, hence the two Commanders)

Image
After taking this photo I realised the green leaked down the face a bit on one marine... need to fix that lol =P

back to the regular 40K stuff
Here is my Chaplain:

Image

I got the shiny black effect by painting the whole model in a burnished gold, then covering it in slightly watered down black ink. Worked pretty well I think.

Can't remember if I've shown these before, but I have some Biel-Tan Warlocks and Farseers:
Image

last one for now, is my Basilisk tank crew:

They provide fire support to my marines when needed.
I made the shell by finding some missiles from an old apache helicopter model that was never finished and somewhat broken, found out the missiles were the perfect size for the barrel of the Basilisk (they slide right in) so I trimmed the ends off a couple to use as cannon shells =D

Amazing work. ^_^

I don't think I've ever seen space marines with bayonets before. I really like the model, and you've done an excellent job painting it. ^_^

The detail level on the orcs is pretty crazy, too. O_o

Yeah, they're the Space Crusade models, they're pretty cool. They were pretty well sculpted for a set board game. I think space crusade came out not long after Space Hulk?

Orcs are surprisingly fun to paint despite me not particularly being drawn to them. I have a box of orcs and a set of metal Orc Commandos that my brother didn't want and ended up in my box of stuff. I was thinking of painting up the commandos to use as replacement for the Chaos Marines if I feel like going with an Orc themed Space Crusade mission some time =P

took some more pics, I've done a fair bit recently =P
didn't realise how much I'd done until it came time to take some pics lol.

did one solitary space crusade 'gretchin' as a test:

my Librarian:

I had the scoop from my Basilisk and decided to put it on my Razorback instead of the Basilisk, after all... I think the Razorback will make better use of it. I used my pocket knife to cut some bullet marks into the scoop so that it fits with the battle damaged look of the Razorback, I like to imagine the crew have used the scoop to block incoming fire on many occasions =P

My landspeeders are coming along nicely too:

Image

still a bit of work to do on them, and the third one I haven't even started painting yet, but I'm happy with how they're coming along.

Here is my Standard Bearer:
Image
I decided upon a cross with a fist in the center for my chapter's main symbol, though the fist is generally only on banners and later on vehicles with shoulder pad symbols being just the cross.

My Devastator squad:
Image

Image
For the captain, I altered the leg and trimmed down a spare Orc head into a skull-like appearance. I like to imagine my Devastators have fought Orc warbands often, hence why the Captain has taken to favouring powerful melee weapons.

Image

Image
Painting the little wires/cables was actually quite fun... I probably need to clean up the white parts, because my white paint was getting a little gluggy when I painted this one.

Image

Image

Image

Image
Still need to tidy up the cross on the shoulder... again, the wires and stuff were fun.

Image

Image
This guy I need to redo the white... I experimented with some ink to make his armour look dirty and it didn't work out like I hoped it would =P

Image
Missile launcher was pretty basic...

Good work!

What's your chapter called?

I called them 'The Brotherhood of Sanctity', or Fraternitatis Sanctimonia when I want to put it in Latin =P

Work with the idea that they're unsure where their Gene seed came from, they know it comes from the Imperial Fists line, but there are conflicting accounts that it either came directly from the Imperial Fists or may have come from the Black Templars.

Would be pretty awesome if it's Black Templars because hey, I play Black Templars and love 'em. The only problem is you've got that Librarian, and BTs don't use them, which means a chapter derived from their gene seed wouldn't either.

I wasn't actually aware of the Black Templars not using Librarians tbh. Is it a genetic reason or tradition reason?

The fluff keeps that vague. In earlier versions, the Black Templars hated all psykers and absolutely would not ally with any of them, except for Grey Knights. It was like they were still following the Edict of Nikea just before the Horus Heresy when the Emperor forbade Marines to have Librarians anymore. It was kind of a contradiction, because like all Imperium forces, the Templars still had to rely on Navigators and Astropaths for their fleets to communicate and use FTL.

In the last couple codexes, they have mellowed out and will ally freely with psykers, but still have no Librarians of their own. The fluff presents a couple of theories, like a flaw in the gene seed that makes Templars never develop Psykers, or that they used to have them but some catastrophe happened that destroyed all Templar Librarians and they can never have them again.

Personally, I like the theory that says the Emperor's Champion in a Black Templars force is a latent psyker who is sent into the heaviest fighting to die honorably...
