((There are no light sources in the tunnels except for the occasional glowing fungus so low light vision will not help you and do not add to the benefit of the goggles because the are not a light source, they just allow you to see through the dark without one.))

Brokan fastens his harness, puts on his goggles, and allows himself to be taken for the ride. It's strange and discomforting to him, riding an animal using a magical enchantment. He had never had the same connection with animals that other druids managed. Apparently, Brokan's power to channel nature's rage came at a price. His mastery over the agressive and unforgiving aspect of nature repelled the other aspect, the communion and connection between all living things.

Something compelled Brokan to try and tap into the communion he'd sacrificed. Perhaps if he was lucky, he could earn an ally, in case they were being led into an ambush. He placed his hand on the boar's skin, and took deep breaths. As he inhaled he imagined the oxygen was flowing through his arm, and into the boar.

Wild Empathy check to improve the boar's attitude toward Brokan.

Knowledge (nature) to identify the giant boar's species and to learn useful information about it.

Livia attaches her harness and is startled by how quiet the boars are. She puts the goggles on and looks around. She is surprised by how well they work. She holds on tightly to the saddle and tries to keep her focus on the boar, just in case its demeanor changes.

Spoiler:
If your wild empathy is doing anything you can not tell.
You understand that these boars are not mammals. Instead, they are akin to Myconids (mushroom people) only in the form of a boar. They don't feel warm to the touch and their spongy texture and thick hide feel more like a mushroom.

CrimsonBlade holds on tight and is digging the goggles. It's too bad they're short in supply...they would definitely notice if a pair went missing.

Guy hates every second. He's been trained his whole life to ride horses... a completely different experience. A horse saddle rests on a straight, minimally flexing back, no strap, only reins needed. It was a wholly more pleasant animal to ride altogether. The saddle, such as it was, for the boar rests farther forward, between the beast's shoulder blades, making for a much bumpier, more jarring ride. Guy has to force himself to use his knees to simply hold on, and not attempt to steer the animal or to goad it as he would on a horse. After a few minutes, he adapts by forcing himself not to try and use any of his training on a horse at all.

Minather carefully fastens his harness and puts his goggles on. He has always hated traveling underground, and his last experience with the underdark was not a good one.

That was from another time...when he had found the book.

Brokan rested his hand on the "boar," fascinated by the texture. He realized his wild empathy would not accomplish anything. This specimen was something special. He wished it was safe to talk. He had so many questions.

My, my, he thought to himself silently. Truly, nature is the supreme sculptor.

The party races through the subterranean tunnels. You find yourselves charging headlong toward a wall when suddenly Arthfael goads his boar into a faster pace and the other boars respond. At the last second the boar leaps and begins climbing the wall vertically with what seems little to no effort, as if it were running on the flat ground. The upward climb is around 200 yards before the group reaches another tunnel.

The journey continues as such for about an hour before the group stops at what appears to be a subterranean lake. There, Arthfael dismounts and his "boar" approaches the lake.

Spot Check: DC 15 (roll 15 or higher)
Spoiler:
You notice the "boar" approaches the lake to drink. Instead of what you would normally see in a boar drinking, you notice a long tube comes out of its mouth and gently slides into the lake, barely disturbing the water.
As the other gnomes dismount, the "boars" follow their leader. If you dismount as well, your boar will do the same.

Arthfael removes what appears to be some type of flat bread from his sack and begins to hand some out to each of his scouts. He approaches the group and silently offers a piece to each member of the party. The other scouts eat as quietly as possible, constantly looking for any dangers that may exist. He also offers a water skin to drink.

You notice that Arthfael stops moving and slowly looks up. He pulls out a long, cruel looking dagger. The weapon seems to glow slightly greenish and stands out in the darkness. Roughly 150' above him is a giant crablike creature. Arthfael lets loose his dagger and it connects solidly with the creature. The weapon then begins to dig itself into the creature's body. It tries to scream, however instead there is utter silence. It falls from the roof of the cave seems as if it is about to crush the party when the creature halts its momentum in mid air and gently floats to the ground, dead. You notice the other scouts behind Arthfael putting away wands in their tunics.

The dagger then materializes in Arthfael's hand once again and he sheaths his weapon. He draws out a mundane looking dagger and begins to field dress the crab monster. He removes many pieces form the face, what look like glands and various organs. From a small bag, he pulls out a large bundle of linen, the size of which should not fit in the bag. He wraps the pieces individually and places it all in the small bag.

Soon after, the boars are done drinking and the scouts begin to mount them once again to continue their journey.

Minather dismounts with the others, and observes the interesting display. He is fascinated by the dagger. Probably an enchantment, or conjuration he thinks. When the other scouts mount, he does as well, eager to leave the unsettling place.

Too distracted by his discomfort riding the boar, Guy notices very little.

EDIT:

Kratimos dismounts and lets his boar relax and drink with the rest. He'd be surprised how it drinks, but this whole world is a bit foreign.

Looking frazzled and disheveled from the ride, Livia clings to the boar. She does not dismount but does watch the incident with the crab. She bends over the saddle, feeling like she may lose her stomach contents. She has always been susceptible to motion sickness.
