My troops would be honored to slice your troops to ribbons behind those sandbags :D

Mog! At last some useful information! You guys are being supper helpful. I'll need to rethink my ideas now, gotta think bigger.
Hmm.
Is 2x2 feet just too small? I'm hoping to make 2 or more of these tables, but man, the price of materials I want to use ain't cheap.

My idea is something I haven't seen in Wargaming, it's just an expensive idea with how big the terrain needs to be.

Truth be told, the only Wargaming I've done is Brikwars. Heh.

Yeah 2x2 is a bit too small even if you make the armies small, because what will happen is close combat troops will have an advantage, being able to close with the opponent too quickly.

For instance, in Infinity, weapon ranges are very long, with several weapon types being more effective in some range bands. That range band is often 30+" and on a 2' table that would mean those troops never get to use their weapons at full effectiveness. Also, with a space that small a close combat oriented model can easily reach an opponent's model in the first game turn and slash it to ribbons. (Yes, reaction shots would happen but again, not necessarily at the weapon's most effective range band.)

Similar with Warhammer. A boltgun's range is 24" so nobody will be out of range unless they're back in the corners. Meanwhile a Space Marine Assault Squad can potentially move 24" in a single round of they use jump packs in the movement phase then manage to roll boxcars on their assault charge range... and that can all happen before the opponent can even fire a shot. (Well ok there's overwatch, but that's not very comforting when you can only hit on a 6.)

Brikwars is awesome. Not gonna lie.

Hmm. So I should ever go smaller than 3x3.
This changes everything. (DUN dun DUUUUNN)
What can you tell me about grids?
I know one game uses hexagons, but are there any other types?

I was thinking to using a grid pattern, not to restrict movement, only for design purposes.

Thank you. My troops would be honored to...well, most likely, stand there and be cut to ribbons. XD

In hindsight, it was perhaps not wise to build an anti-shooting terrain piece for my primarily shooty army. Gotta be fair, I 'spose.

I believe 40K, and I know Warmachine, works off of measurements for movement. My speed 6 Warjack can go 6 inches, for example.

But I like gridded stuff, personally. I want a copy of the Zone Mortalis board, even though it's not even remotely feasible for Warmachine. XD

As far as I know, games that have a grid movement system like Battletech or Heroscape are based on hex grids only. Square grids make diagonal movement very slow compared to vertical or horizontal, while hex grids allow for more consistent movement distances.

More stuff!

Been working on this for about a week and a half. Most of that was procrastinating going to Michael's and getting the moss for the boughs.

I present: Tiny Forest section!

Tiny mushrooms!

Large stump!

Fake rocks!

Spooky shadows!

That's a lot of pictures, but I really like this one. XD I put everything together; the rocks are painted plaster, the tree's are an assemblage of wire and masking tape dry-brushed half to death, and the stump is carved from florists foam.

Wow Chozon! Fancy fancy, did you make the trees too?

Yeah. :D It's a wire (starting with coat hanger thickness wire, then using florists wire for the branches) core, which is wrapped in florists tape and masking tape.

The foliage is little bits of moss, hot-glued on. Interested in seeing how that holds up, over time.

It occurs to me that building Wargaming terrain and setpieces is akin to making sets and practical effects in movies. Fun little realization of the day.

Keep up the good work!

You know, that one picture with the mini up on the hill would make an awesome caption contest...
