Well they're from my Space Crusade board game, the three marine teams represented by the models are supposed to be the Ultramarines, the Blood Angels and the Imperial Fists, so I went with paint schemes based on their chapters.

The Orcs I'm just painting at random with no particular factional colours, and the Chaos Marines and Dreadnaughts are painted in the red/purple split I posted earlier.
Dunno what colours to paint the Genestealers yet, but I was thinking of going with one of the Tyranids 'official' colour schemes.

Thanks you all. ^_^ I'm happy with it because I can see my painting skills getting better. Those genestealers, though I didn't get a close up, I'm actually super happy with. The white and blue ones, anyway.

And yes, that's an aquarium. Wanted to keep them safe and be able to see them. Running out of room, though.

Been on an Infinity kick lately. Here's my completed Knight of Santiago with Combi-rifle.

That's awesome looking. ^_^ I like the shoulder decals, and the level of definition you got on the armor...Infinity has some really cool models.

And yeah, those are Genestealers. XD They're from Space Hulk, and I didn't want to just shove them back in the box.

Hey guys! I'm getting into the building terrain side of wargaming, but I need some help.
I need to know what scale to build in. Whats your preference?

In that scale, what is considered a 'high wall' or 'a high ledge"? 4 or 5 inches maybe?

What is the size of an average figure's base-plate? (the discs the figures stand on)

I find Infinity becoming increasingly popular they are 28mm yes? Can you tell me their base-plate size as well?

Because of the restrictions on my designs, the "maps" I will be making will be more for Skirmish battles.
I have a plan for a 15in x 18in map. Is this too small?

For perspectives sake. Could've been a bit taller, but I think it's OK for granting cover. It's not the best, but I love it. <3

I can't help much as far as 40K or Infinity goes (though I do want to play Infinity), but in Warmachine, (which I've been told is around 32mm in scale.) each model takes up a cylinder in volume according to base size (The small bases measures 30mm, and use 1.25 inches of volume. Medium measures 40mm and uses 1.75 inches, and large measures 50mm and uses 2.25), so I haven't been building my stuff to scale so much as to purpose. Like...I know my sandbags will grant cover, but since they're less than 1.25 inches, they won't block line of sight for my infantry. On the other hand, a huge (well...relatively) tree stump I built will block line of sight to everything, since it's around 3 inches tall.

I figure since the world has mountain sized trolls and 30 foot tall Steam powered robots, I can play around a little. XD

That said, this is the first time I've built anything, so it could be completely illegal or sommat. O_o

Most tabletop wargames are in 28mm, which is about the same as 1/56 scale.

A miniature is typically about 28mm to eye level so it depends on what your wall is. If it's a low wall just for providing cover, it should be about half the height of the mini. if it's meant to be a multi-story rampart, then you just do a quick math conversion for height.

Depends on the game. Warhammer 40,000 and Infinity use 25mm circular bases, though with Warhammer that can vary as they're now releasing Blood Angels space marines on 32mm bases. The regular infantry base size for Malifaux and Warmachine is 30mm with larger troops and warjacks getting 40mm or 50mm bases.

Most skirmish games are designed to be played in a 3' x 3' area, or 36" x 36" so you'll find that a 15" x 18" area is probably a bit too small. Malifaux is 3' x 3', Warmachine is played on a 4' x 4' table, and Warhammer is played on a 4' x 8' table.[/quote]

The models tend to run a bit larger than Warhammer and I believe technically they're 32mm scale. Slightly larger than Warhammer but not a big enough difference that you couldn't use terrain interchangeably.

Yeah, I've been starting some work on terrain too. I recently got some rock moulds, just need to buy some modelling plaster to make some nice rocks and stuff =D

I've also got a piece of foam packaging that I've painted up in grey. Looks good for a bunker, just need to add a door and some window slits to it.

Modeling clay. Which is awesome because it's so cheap. Wal-Mart has it for a dollar per 2 ounce block.

I actually just used a splatter guard (for frying) to get the pattern on top. Fun times.
