I didn't think it was that bad either, but I'd agree that it didn't look as youthful as I'd imagine Link should.Chozon1 wrote: It's been my experience that those who complain about stuff like that usually don't paint miniatures. I have very little experience, true, but there it is. I thought his face looked pretty good, actually.

So this guy... This freakin' guy... Possibly the greatest miniature painter that ever lived. His worst model blows away the best I can do. His name is James Wappel.

Great thing is, he has tutorials on his site, as well as on YouTube. You should definitely check them out.
I don't know if looking at his work inspires me or crushes my soul...

Looking at some of those models makes me want to commit ritual suicide.

The worst is when you finish a model and you're really proud of it, because it's the best you've done so far. You'd admiring your amazing talent... then stupidly go and look at other peoples work online and realise there are people infinitely more skilled (and with way more time on their hands) than yourself.... =PArcticFox wrote:Looking at some of those models makes me want to commit ritual suicide.

Yeah it's definitely discouraging.
What I try to do instead is to compare my work to itself... In other words, I look at models I painted recently and compare them to ones I did in the past, as a way of seeing my progress and improvement.
The time to worry is when there's no difference...
At least on Wappel's site (and on YouTube) he teaches you his method, so in theory you can work your way up to painting like him... although I'm sure one must have at least a modicum of natural talent to get there. I don't know if I do or not. My approach to painting is very technical because I just don't have a natural feel for color theory.

Dad-blasted-gum. O_o
Those are stunning; I would be afraid to play with them, almost.

Almost finished my Space Crusade Ultra Marines... I have some extra models, so it means I don't have to swap weapons around and risk the pins getting snapped off. Plus having two commanders to choose from is cool =P

Still need to finish off a few of the backpacks and paint the bases... and a few minor details here and there.
but overall I'm pretty happy I managed to get them all mostly done. Managed to sit down for a couple of hours the other day and work through it =D
Blood Angels next I think...

Vintage Space Marine models. I love it!
So you're just doing units from various chapters?

My Stormwall:

Stryker is there for size comparison. And because, though illegal, it would be awesome to field them that way. XD

Haven't decided on a name. And, to be honest, whether I'm done...I see some spots that need fixing, and some places that could be improved...but I'm sort of afraid to pick up my brush and botch it. O_o
And, for fun, my display/storage case. ^_^
