C$ is being pretty light-hearted with the joking, but he's probably actually wondering like myself, why is this even a problem for you? I'm not trying to tease DMR here, I'm genuinely puzzled.
DMR, It's pretty clear you are a fan of Sonic. Your avatar is of Sonic. Why not just own up to it?
You're surrounded by geeks here. Fandom defines our geekiness. You can't be a geek without being a big fan, especially on subjects or to the degrees that exceed social norms.
We're all fans of lots of things and many of us are Sonic fans. Shoot, I'm a Sonic fan.
Is there some negative connotation you have with being a fan?

I'm a huge total war fan. I highly enjoyed Empire: Total War despite its glaring flaws and bugs. I'm not ashamed XD

I'm a serious The Last of Us fanboy.
It's kind of ridiculous how much I love that game.

That was an avatar I made for the site. I felt like using it. I can change at any time. See? And for the last time, NO. I am not a fan. Sheesh.....

Fan = you like or are simply fascinated by the series and/or a character or characters in either a single game or the overarching narrative if the games have that. At least that's what it means in my eyes.
I am fan of: Tales of Vesperia, the Mass Effect series, the Rockband games, Dota 2, Rayman, the Assassin's Creed series, the Orcs Must Die! franchise, the first two Empire Earths, Counter-Strike, the Portal series, the Left4Dead series, the original Darksiders, The Legend of Zelda, Smash Bros, Sonic Adventure 2, basically all of the Halo series, and many more I am sure to have forgotten.
My point is, DMR, you make it sound like being a fan is a mental condition, where your entire world revolves around a game or series. You may think of "fan" as the original shortening of "fanatic". Yes, this is something to be avoided, for sure. I would say most people do not think this when they declare themselves fans of something. Being a fan can simply just mean getting involved in a story, character, or ideal/ideal.
Think back to your emotional investment the fist time you played, say, Final Fantazy VII. It's times like those that make you become a fan of something. You like Sonic. I would hazard a guess that it's a story and character you grew up with, and still have fond memories of. If you say you don't like it, you're lying to yourself and us. It's okay to be a fan of Sonic. That doesn't make you lame or uncool; it just makes you you. Once again, there is, however, a difference between being a fan of something and being defined by something. Avoid the latter (unless it's what you feel or know God defines you as).
C$ may have run his mouth a bit, for sure, but that's just his style. He's made light of regulars on this forum more than once, myself included. Don't let it get under your skin.
Well, that's just my two cents. Take it or leave it.
Also, what the heck is the trend with putting images in spoilers? Did I miss a pseudo-rule change?
