Did I download the right thing? http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop It wants me to install wubi.... should I install it?

nah you don't have to install wubi, just boot off of the CD

lol apparently I don't have any burning software installed can you recommend a good free one?

mmm.... maybe i'm missing something. I downloaded the ubuntu cd but I can't get it to boot from it. I went here to the help page: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootFromCD it shows a pic of how the cd should look. I have 2 boot folders in there that is not in the pic.

All I did was unzip in and burn it.

check your boot order in your bios? are you able to boot off of other cd's?

That was the first thing I checked. My windows xp is the 2002 version so your probably right that I can't use 64 bit.

But the Ubuntu live cd looks like it has some good tools.
