I learned the basics growing up (peeling, cutting, how to use a stove). Mostly from my mom having me do stuff around the kitchen. But I don't remember ever cooking a meal when I grew up.

When I did blindness rehabilitation training in my very early 20's, I learned to cook blindfolded. Having learned the basics as a kid, I picked it up pretty quickly. And if you can do it blindfolded, it's much easier sighted.

Once you know the basics, cooking is basically just following recipes, and learning how to make adjustments to recipes. My wife and I watch Food Network and get ideas, or we look up recipes online (cooks.com is a good website for that, as Food Network recipes tend to be a little complicated). While it takes a lot of talent to be a great chef, anyone can learn to be a good cook. It's a skill I highly recommend learning, especially if you're in your late teens and about to go off to college. Not only can it save you money, it's very satisfying to be able put a meal together. It's also a great way to impress a member of the opposite sex.

Um... Bill Miller's is the only one I can think of. I know, that's a crime for a Texan. The best BBQ places tend to be dives anyway. Or you make a friend who knows how to BBQ.

I'm told I can cook fairly well. I cannot, however, for the life of me make decent tasting chili.

I don't cook BBQ myself. I've got some family who's pretty good at it though.

Nope. I have stepped barefoot into hot asphalt. It wasn't fun, especially for a five-year-old.

What are your thoughts on bringing the hat back?

Like the olden day hats, not like...trucker hats.

I'm not sure how they'd look on my shaggy head, but other than that I'm game.

As for pig slop... hmm. I think even the Iron Chef's would have trouble with that one. XD
