True. You will want little noise as possible,and make sure you keep healthy. Probably mountains would be a good, unpopulated, place. A sword, dagger, or most any knife would be a good weapon to use, as Fathom321 pointed out, you never need to reload it.

Ah you guys and your plans. It's so cute.

Firstly, 'apocalypse' implies a massive, world wide outbreak. No amount of blades, shotguns, or even explosives will help you. A small town is around 2000-4000 people. Assuming even half of them got infected (which is a very forgiving guess), think about 2000 people pressing in on you wishing your death. It is a pretty much unstoppable force. Like...the local state fair, type unstoppable force. You dead. And that's a single small town, let alone an average city or a gigantic city.

Secondly, bladed weapons do require ammo. Not sharpening, but your arm strength. Even the strongest person alive will lose his arm strength eventually, and how many human necks (which are something like 7-9 inches thick) do you think can be chopped through before you get tired? Give it a shot sometime with a pork roast. Even with a very sharp sword, the force needed is huge. And that's with swords; axes typically require a lot more oomph.

Thirdly, waiting for winter is no guarantee of survival either; it makes the assumption that the zombies are biological ('magical' zombies will charge through cold easily) and that the biological processes reanimating them don't put off any heat, and that the zombies will be alone; which is tricky at best. A few zombies in shuffling horde mode (or worse, if they're the speedy ones) would probably be able to keep themselves warm by being in a group. Even the decay process of flesh produces heat in and of itself, I think. Not a lot, but it wouldn't need to be more than 32 degress or so. Keep in mind, there's also no guaranteed that zombies will need oxygen like you and I, and that they won't be limber enough to climb.

Fourthly, there seems to be a general consensus that 'waiting it out' will work dandily; why should this be so? Zombies have to want to eat for some reason, and I doubt it's movie cliches`. They consume flesh in order to preserve themselves, probably? Even if it's simply a bacteriological impulse to consume in order to convert to energy. So then, given all the people in the world, and that zombies are very likely practically immortal (since the whole 'rot 'till bones' thing may/may not work), and that more will be created all the time, how long do you think you can stay alive? Decades? Hundreds of years?

Fifthly, survival: It's impossible. You're outnumbered (which ain't so bad, by itself), you're out supplied (zombies need nothing except food, of which they are made), and you're out toughed (they can stand to wait for a very long time, with very little; and you cannot). It's a hopeless scenario.

Which is wh my plan is to burninate everything and die in a fiery explosion.

I'd run straight to the police station down the street (yes, there is a police station right beside the ghetto that I live in), grab as many weapons as I can, grab all my unbitten family members, and drive straight out of town.

Then, I'd try to find a Mennonite village and we can all discuss our plans there. Since they're Mennonite's, they most likely will be able to build barricades faster than anyone who lives in the city. Then we'll have to adapt to their food.

Or I'll drive straight to Nunavut and chill in an igloo for the rest of my life, hunting seals.

I just realized I never answered the original question, so here are all of my possible plans.

1. Become rich and buy military bunker with solar panels, a greenhouse, and supplies. (Before zombie apocalypse)

2. Move to cold(er) place, like Alaska. (Before zombie apocalypse)

3. Help the company that's going to cause the apocalypse, hopefully being spared.

4. Sacrifice all of the people I don't like (politicians mostly) to the zombies while laughing maniacally.

5. Knowingly infect myself that way I can kill everyone I didn't like and not feel bad.

6. Cannibalism

I know you're not supposed to share your zombie survival plan, but I'm probably going to die anyway. I figure I might as well have some fun before I die, you know?

I've seen a few old decommissioned underground nuclear missile silos for sale, I'd get one of those because they are extremely fortified. I'd take my friends and family and hole up in there with all the guns, swords, knives and most importantly food. No hoard could get inside a nuclear bunker, so the most important thing is food and sanitation. We would also want to draw as little attention as possible so that we don't just get sieged/waited out by the zombie hoard. The good thing about an underground bunker is that they're, well, underground.
Therefore not being very visible, not emitting noise, and being secure. A Katana and shotgun would be my weapons of choice, the shotgun would be nice while ammo lasted (although deafening in the steel corridor no doubt) and the Katana for keeping them at a distance and not requiring ammunition. A knife would be the last resort, because if they're that close you're done for anyway. But then, if they managed to break into my nuclear bunker we're all goners anyway.

How do zombies hear if they are dead? And if they do come which they won't we would all die eventually.

And why does everyone assume that the mountains and country have so much food.
You guys should read One second after great end of the world book but it's realistic none of those dumb zombies.

Well in that case how do they see? Gosh, how do they move? They're zombies dude and if they were real and like most of the zombies people talk about they're gonna be listening for food.

Well, I have read the Zombie Survival Guide.
It's really detailed book on zombie survival, and yes, zombies can hear sounds.
Zombies aren't smart though, if they hear you in a room next to them,
they would not look for the door, they will go straight to you.
So if there is a wall in the way, they would keep on hitting it till it goes down. (So having brick walls are nice.)
Also the best way to kill a zombie is to cut off or shoot it's head, since they need a brain to move.

Well, these are my plains.

-If I have no preparation time,
I would get stuff I need (Food, weapons, etc) on the second floor of my house,
My choice of weapons would involve bows and arrows, katanas, and a japanese pole made for decapitating.
I would cut the stairs, so they couldn't get up.
If there is a lot of zombies nearby, then I would get on my roof and shoot some fire arrows at them.
The fire will then spread from zombie to zombie, thus clearing any groups near me. (Not to mention bows are pretty silent.)
I am pretty safe, though if I run out of food I would have to hit the road on foot.
I would probably then look for a nice mountain with a lot of plant life, and survive there.
I would just need to find a safe place for sleeping.

-If I have a few days of preparation time,
I probably would take a plane and go to Nunavut and hunt seals with Krytae.
The Zombie Survival Guide says that zombies would freeze in really cold places,
If by some weird reason I see a zombie survive the cold, then I will get that Japanese pole I mentioned.


Yeah, I actually think a Zombie apocalypse would be one of the easiest apocalypse to survive.
Now if it was a military robot apocalypse. *Shudder*

I have read the zombie survival gaurd, no affence so I know how to live ... but ... here are the worst places possable to go ... the Whitehouse, Walmart, the mountains, a big town, a plant, a garden, a cruze ship, a jail, and many other places...
This is what I would do in a zombie apocalypce,

1: Get all my dads guns (our fammily is a hunting fammily).
2: Buy chainmeal and army helmets and a thick coat.
3: Get a boat and go to a oil plant in the middle of the ocean.
4: Sink the ship we arrived on (there might be zombies on it).
5: Take everything from the plant and take it into one room and make into a bunker.
6: Make the ship as clean as possable (nowhere for the zombies to hide in).
7: Go fishing of the oil plant every day to get food for your family.
8: Make a keep for all the weapons that is attached to your bunker
9: Invent a secret weapon (I am a inventor).
10: Get my sister and brother-in-law to be our doctors for when we are sick (they are both doctors).
11: Make whole new generation until the zombies are gone.
12: survive for as long as we can.

If it were possible to spell anything else incorrectly in the above post, I would be incredibly shocked.
