Heroes of Newerth Reborn Expands With New Hero, Marketplace Revamp, and Improved New Player Experience
The classic MOBA’s revival continues to gain momentum with a major update focused on growth, accessibility, and new content
Kalamazoo, Michigan - February 26, 2026 — Heroes of Newerth Reborn, the community-driven revival of the classic MOBA, continues to prove its staying power with upcoming major new updates introducing a new hero, a revamped in-game marketplace, and a redesigned new player onboarding experience. Following a successful open beta launch last year and a steadily growing active player base, these updates are launching very soon and mark another step forward in strengthening the game’s ecosystem and welcoming the next wave of players.
Headlining this wave of content is Dampeer, the next returning hero to join the Heroes of Newerth Reborn roster. A starving man turned monster, Dampeer is now a twisted creature that survives by devouring the lifeforce of others. This monstrous new addition expands the game’s lineup with a dark, thematic presence that long-time fans of HoN’s grittier heroes will immediately recognize.
Alongside the new hero, Heroes of Newerth Reborn is introducing a revamped in-game store and marketplace, designed to give players clear, accessible ways to discover and exchange cosmetic content for HoN Reborn. For the first time, players will be able to browse cosmetic items directly from the game’s main interface, as well as through a web-based version outside of live matches. A dedicated marketplace will allow players to buy and sell cosmetic items, starting with alternate avatars, using Jade, the in-game currency for player-to-player transactions. Jade earned through these sales can be reinvested into other cosmetics within the game, with options available for broader redemption, all within a transparent and fully optional cosmetic catalogue that does not affect gameplay balance.
Finally, the team is also set to deliver a new player onboarding experience aimed at reducing friction for newcomers and returning players alike. New players will be guided through core UI elements and systems upon first launch, with added structure designed to ease them into the game’s depth without overwhelming them. These changes are intended to improve early-match confidence, reduce extreme skill mismatches, and help new players reach the full HoN experience more smoothly.
“This next wave of updates marks a major step forward for Heroes of Newerth: Reborn. With the introduction of our marketplace, significant match quality improvements for both new and veteran players, and a more meaningful account progression system, we’re strengthening the full gameplay cycle from first match to long-term mastery. Open beta has been about listening, refining, and accelerating and over the last month especially, the pace of improvement has ramped up dramatically. These updates represent our commitment to delivering a faster, smoother, and more rewarding competitive experience.”, said Nick “Breakycpk” Caras, Communications Director at Kongor Studios. The team is also looking at its most veteran audience, of course, and will share more details soon about a planned invite-only tournament in March, featuring Twitch drops for the community. This will be the first of several competitive events to come to HoN Reborn.
Together, these additions reinforce Heroes of Newerth Reborn’s ongoing development and long-term vision. The team is committed as well to conscious moderating efforts, and has been actively taking measures to ensure to protect the competitive integrity of HoN Reborn. With consistent updates, an engaged community, and a clear focus on accessibility and sustainability, the revival continues to demonstrate that HoN is not just back, but here to stay.
