In celebration of Halloween, Apogee Entertainment and developer Trigger Happy Interactive are thrilled to announce that legendary composer and sound designer Akira Yamaoka of Silent Hill series fame has contributed his talents to the highly anticipated psychological survival horror title, Total Chaos!

Yamaoka has composed a new original theme and track for Total Chaos called “Catharsis,” which Apogee has released a one-minute preview of with GameSpot ahead of the game’s launch later this year.

Yamaoka is joined by original Total Chaos mod composers Jason Dagenet and William Braddell, along with Apogee’s music team: Chipper Hammond, Tim Stoney, and Mathieu Hallouin. Together, they’ve crafted an ambient, nightmare-inducing soundscape that blurs the line between music and madness.

“Many of us at Apogee have dreamed of working with Yamaoka-san, so when the opportunity came up for him to become involved with our first survival horror title, we jumped at the chance,” said Apogee’s Executive Producer, Jeron Moore. “Yamaoka-san absolutely understood the assignment. “Catharsis” perfectly captures the emotional journey of Total Chaos’ protagonist. Players will hear Yamaoka-san’s theme woven throughout the game alongside haunting, oftentimes unnerving tracks composed by Jason Dagenet, William Braddell, Chipper Hammond, Tim Stoney, and Mathieu Hallouin, with the full song bookending the journey in the game credits.”

What began as an award-winning total conversion DOOM II mod has now become a fully standalone title with a spine-tingling atmosphere and an aggressively uneasy tension throughout. Developer Sam Prebble brings his game (Turbo Overkill) and Hollywood (Avatar, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Rise of the Planet of the Apes) visual effects talents to deliver a full-scale survival horror experience that will gnaw away at players’ sense of safety.

Total Chaos pulls players into the abyss of Fort Oasis, a desolate wasteland once considered paradise by its residential coal miner community. A shadow looms over the island, inhibiting a sense of madness, which can only be described as the feeling of constantly being watched. Monstrosities lurk around every corner of the island’s heart, trapping anybody daring enough to enter the void. While shooting and bludgeoning through these twisted foes, players will unearth fragments of forgotten lives to piece together the chilling mystery of Fort Oasis’ demise (and their connection to it) before their sanity runs dry.

Key Features of Total Chaos:

Immersive Atmosphere: Explore the decayed ruins of Fort Oasis across nine harrowing chapters, each drenched in dread, plunging you deeper into its oppressive, decaying world.

Environmental Storytelling: Uncover the island’s darkest secrets and confront your own fractured past through cryptic notes, haunting visuals, and unsettling encounters.

Crafting for Survival: Build and upgrade weapons using scavenged materials to stand a chance against the relentless terrors stalking you.

Face Freakish Foes: Engage against horrific creatures, each with their own deadly behaviors and strategies.

Resource Management: Navigate a deep inventory system where every item matters — your survival hinges on careful choices, crafting the perfect weapon, and quick thinking on the fly.

Total Chaos will launch on Windows PC via Steam later this year, with VR support coming after launch. You can wishlist and play the demo now on Steam.
