GGJ’s Indie Studio Supporter Program Turns 1!

It's been one year since we announced the first members of the Global Game Jam Indie Studio Supporter program. Since July 2024, we've expanded to 30 studios from around the world - and that number is growing every month!

Since creating this program to support our Indie Studio Supporter members, we’ve…

🎉 Launched a new Indie Studio Spotlight feature as part of GGJ’s monthly spotlight series.

🔎 Curated a Steam list with all of their amazing games to share.

✨ Provided tickets to attend industry events to indie studio leaders, such as Second Quest’s founders, giving teams the chance to showcase their work and connect with global industry leaders.

💵 Worked to find ways to access to funding to support games and studios. We had a number of indie studio supporter teams participate in our partner game jam with Blue Ocean Games, creating incredible projects that pushed boundaries and brought bold ideas to life. And we’re kicking off a new partnership with Kickstarter to help promote and support crowdfunding campaigns from within our GGJ community.

🎓 Several studio leaders have received scholarships to attend major game conferences such as GDC in San Francisco and devcom in Cologne, opening doors to learning and networking.

As we head into Year 2, we're excited about all the future holds and are looking at ways to expand and build upon the success in our pilot year. If you've got an indie studio, we'd love to be have you join us as Indie Studio Supporter and be able to support your work.

As part of our ongoing initiative to provide opportunities beyond the jam, we know support through funding plays part in a game's success. That’s why we’re so excited to announce our partnership with crowdfunding platform, Kickstarter!

Our partnership will include:

🔦 Get your Kickstarter project promoted by GGJ to our newsletter and across our GGJ social media.

In the Spotlight

The secret to successfully organizing a GGJ site? Ask for help! Now in his ninth year as site organizer, Diego Rodriguez shares how Lima Game Jam in Peru became more than just an annual event, but a spark that helped ignite an entire industry in the latest Global Game Jam Site Organizer Spotlight.

In this month’s Global Game Jam Mentor Spotlight, Virginia Leo talks about “embracing the chaos of game development” and how the problem-solving challenges of jams are excellent preparation for industry work.

Have a GGJ story we should spotlight? We’re always looking for community members we can highlight from mentors and indie studios to jammers and site organizers. Share stories here!

Tune in this Thursday July 17th at 1pm EST for a livestream hosted by IndieCade and Global Game Jam to showcase games created during the Climate Jam 2025: Natural & unNatural Disasters! Mark DeLoura, Games and Education Technology Expert from Level Up Games, will be joining to give expert feedback to the participating teams and will be available to answer audience questions as well.
