What if your game helped spark real-world change?
Global Game Jam is teaming up with One World or None (OWON) to debut an exciting new jam with a bold purpose. “Citizens, Assemble! A Game Jam to Level Up Democracy” invites developers around the world to create mobile-friendly game experiences that capture the challenge and spirit of Citizens’ Assemblies.
With democracy under pressure worldwide, “Citizens, Assemble!” offers a unique chance for game developers to engage with real-world issues, using their skills not just to entertain, but to inspire change - one game at a time.
The jam kicks off June 6 and will run through early August and will have a $10,000 prize for the top game and the potential for further development support for standout submissions. Games will be judged on a variety of categories including Best Overall, Best Gameplay and Citizen’s Vote (determined by a public voting). Notable guest judges will include Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Brian Eno and award winning founding Chair of BiG (BAME in Games) Kish Hirani.
GGJ and OWON will be hosting a live Q&A about the jam on May 21st at 1pm EST (UTC-4). Registration is now open!
Interested teams must be registered by June 23rd and can sign up by joining the itch.io and completing this application.

Say Hello to the GGJ Next Advisory Committee!
As part of Global Game Jam’s strategic plan following the 2025 event, the organization is establishing sector- and topic-specific committees dedicated to exploring how GGJ can best serve its global community of game developers. The goal of all GGJ committees is to expand the global community of developers, lower existing barriers to participation, and foster relationships with potential industry partners.
We’re excited to introduce the newest advisory committee: GGJ Next!

Global Game Jam Jammer Spotlight:
Vittorio Romeo
When developer Vittorio Romeo joined Global Game Jam 2025 in Messina, Sicily, it wasn’t a solo mission, but it was a team effort rooted in friendship, curiosity, and a love for cats. And what made this year special was teaming up with his girlfriend, Sonia Misericordia, who had never created a game, or even done digital art, before.
Together, they created BubbleByte, an adorable incremental clicker about cats popping bubbles, a game inspired by their real-life Maine Coon, Byte, who’s endlessly fascinated by soap bubbles. What started as a jam concept in a local gaming hall full of camaraderie and creativity quickly evolved into a full release on Steam.
