I'm angry at the Ouya and the GameStick!!!!!!!

Great for talking hardware, hype, and games outside traditional genres.

Okay, I know I was excited about this devices, but I have to confess:

I'M MAD AT KICKSTARTER AND ALL THE PROJECTS THAT HAVE TO DO WITH THE OUYA AND THE GAMESTICK. And here's why:

The Ouya and the GameStick have one thing in common- they both are trying to disrupt the industry or the ecosystem of gaming. Trying to making gaming accessible on consoles, these consoles are phenomenal. Just one problem (And this is what is making me angry)....................THEY'RE ONLY FOR HD TELEVISIONS!!!!!! THEY DIDN'T THINK THAT PEOPLE WITH STANDARD TELEVISIONS HAVE A PROBLEM WITH GAMES BEING EXPENSIVE?!?!

Well, they're probably leading the way in that trend. Why keep things backwards compatible forever? Do you want Apple to make sure ipods play CDs?

HD is standard now. You don't buy new TVs without HDMI ports.

These new consoles are designed to be slim and sleek, and adding another connector, especially one where you have to convert to an analog signal, only defeats the purpose and raises the price. Digital age, my friend.

Maybe. But that's more money out my pocket (and money I don't have). Not to mention that STANDARD TELEVISIONS ARE BEING SOLD. Why would they make it for one and not the other? And it's so unfair that they talk about making it easier to play games on television yet they focus on the one and not the many.

I bought a 32-inch LED Magnavox TV for $250. It wasn't on sale. It's not utter garbage. It has 3 HDMI ports, a VGA port, a spot for compent cables, and is lightweight.

HD is no longer expensive, and it's going to be the standard very soon, assuming it isn't already.

Actually, you're probably the "few" who has no HDMI port. I also just got a 32" for 228.

I had an HDTV that I sent in for repairs once. It was around the time Skyrim came out, so I hooked my PS3 up my old "standard" 20 inch flatscreen to play it. Skyrim was pretty much unplayable, and most of my other PS3 games weren't much better. You can't buy one of those older TVs new anymore, and as many others have stated, the prices are dropping. Why bother making anything compatible with oldschool TVs when they're already all but obsolete?

If it makes you feel better, we still use the standard TV at our house. We've briefly discussed getting a newer flat screen TV, but those discussions typically end with someone (usually me) saying "but our TV now is working perfectly fine, so we don't need a new TV yet."

When this TV wears out, then we'll look into getting a new one. I've got so many games to get through at this point (I haven't even started Metroid Prime 3, and I've had it for a couple years now...) that I'm not in a huge rush to get the newest gaming equipment....
