The 'Chinese' food that people always put air quotes around since it's really 'American' 'Chinese' 'food' not 'real' Chinese food?
It's more Chinese than I thought. At least with General Tso's chicken. Apparently it was created in NYC by a Chinese chef for American tastes buds, using Chinese flavors. It's not classical Chinese cooking, nor something known to China until it was brought home by Chinese chefs returning after a war.
But still. It's fud created by a Chinese guy. I no longer feel as though I'm betraying an ancient food culture by nomming it, since it's like a cheeseburger. And only superior punks would claim cheeseburgers were not American.
<3 America. At least at this moment. Plus, I can now stop using air quotes.
Guess what I found out?
