Psychonauts

Story

Raz (Razputin) is the newest kid at Whispering Rock Psychic Camp, a summer camp where kids learn to use their psychic powers (such as Pyrokinesis, Clairvoyance, TK, etc.) Everything is fine, when kid\'s brains are missing, and only Raz can stop whoevers doing it!

Content

(Occult, Supernatural) Plenty of supernatural stuff here, this is a game based around psychic powers. As a Christian, I do not see harm in there powers in the game, because they are shown in a light manner, unlike the real stuff. If you can take the game as fiction, as a story, it should be ok. A scavenger hunt item in game is a Fertility idol, but it's more of a weird joke with nothing occult about it. One character later on, after you save a percious item of hers, sees you (if you use Clairvoyance) in a Jesus robe, complete with sash and light from your head. In the Milkman Conspiracy, the Milkman has several references to Jesus. One character makes the sign of the Cross.

- Game takes place in an environment with minor occult references. (-3 pts) - Borderline magic (hard to tell if occult) is used by player. (-3.5 pts)

-(Sexual)- Raz is asked to \'make out\' once, and the theme remains throughout the game, and he and his girlfriend do kiss once, but lightly -Sexual Jokes are made once or twice. (-2 pts) -No Nudity (-0 pts) -No Sexual Content (-0 pts)

-(Violence)- You can burn, crush or throw enemies, but all they do is puff away or disappear - but if you kill a squirrel, it turns into squirrel meat. The kids\' brains are removed, but in a cartoony, not violent way at all. The Censors do explode and parts fly around, but it\'s really cartoonish and has no blood, they are seen as figments of your mind rather than real things. -No Blood (-0 pts) -No Gore (-0 pts) -No authority issues involved with this game. (-0 pts) -No prejudicial bias in the game. (-0 pts)

-(Gross)- Several stupid jokes are made, they game overall is wacky and is full of gross jokes, but nothing worse than a Saturday morning cartoon Game is filled with gross humor. (-2.5 pts) -(Tradition)- You try to save your freinds in game and stop evil, and free people from personal demons -Good value decision making is required to progress in the game. (-0 pts) The story in this game delivers a good moral lesson. (+3 pts)

-(Language)- Very little stuff, mainly 'crap' or such. One character exclaims 'Oh my God' -Uses Crude Language (-1.5 pts)

Gameplay

Excellent controls, you play as Raz, it's in 3rd person. You switch between powers to solve puzzles, defeat bosses and collect Figments. Each level is in another person's head, and you battle their demons and censors and such. You collect cards to get more rank to be a Psychonaut, and visit various places in the Camp, where you can buy or find items. Be warned, this game is difficult, boss wise and puzzle wise. Overall, it's a solid tight platformer, it's very fun to play!

Sound

GREAT voice acting, with the main character voiced by Richard Steven Horvitz, who was the voice of Zim from Invader Zim! The sound effects are wonderful, and add to the game, as is the music, which is addictive and it suits the levels just fine.

Graphics

Not very good, realism-wise, but you simply cannot beat it for style. Tim Schafer really added a game that is so full of vigor and life, it's a joy just to look at!

Final Score

Graphics: 10 Sound: 9 Gameplay: 8 Content: 7

Overall 90%
