Immortals of Terra is about an (immortal) space legend, named Perry Rhodan, who is the hero of many sci-books and comics in Germany. In his first video game adventure, his lover Mondra Diamond is abducted and he must discover why and (like many sci-fi adventures) save the universe from certain evil. This is an third person adventure-style game where you have to interact with people and objects, and solve many puzzles.Like many adventure games, I had to consult a walk-through to complete the game.
The game starts with Perry being out-ranked and confined to his home planet while knowing that his love is missing. You must study your surroundings and gather clues to figure out where she is and who took her. Once you know where to look, you have to figure out how to get off of that planet, out-ranked or not!
There are many locales that you will travel to. You\'ll visit an academy, a museum, and a couple of foreign planets. You will visit each place once, as there is no turning or going back. If you miss collecting an item, you\'re out of luck if you don\'t have a recent save. I had to restart my game once because I missed something. Fortunately there are many save slots to utilize.
You will encounter many allies and enemies. Some characters won\'t help you out until you do something for them. For example, one character needed me to acquire eyes for him, while another alien wanted me to retrieve a doll they lost. There\'s a notorious hacker that seems to be watching your every move; he appears to be on your side, but you also happen to have something that he wants.
The 3D graphics are quite good for an adventure game. The characters are very detailed, but some of the models are recycled, especially the alien NPC\'s. When it comes to determining what objects you can interact with, it\'s usually pretty obvious but that\'s not always the case. It is easy to overlook some things. The worlds are pretty well detailed and the color schemes are appropriate. Moving around and interacting with objects is all mouse driven. Your cursor will change when you can manipulate an object or talk to a person. When you move onto a different screen, you\'ll get a preview box of what it looks like if you have already been there before. The worlds are relatively small so there is no need for a map. The voice acting is pretty good for the most part. I liked Perry\'s and other human like voices. Some of the aliens had annoying voices though. The main menu music reminded me of Halo; I don\'t remember any other background music in the game. The sound effects were decent but nothing to write home about.
When it comes to appropriateness, there are definitely some things worth noting. For starters, Perry is searching after his lover, and they had a child together that he never met. I guess marriage is a bit more confining for immortals. There is some violence but nothing really drawn out or gory. I don\'t recall any swearing, but there are some alien prejudice slang terms used. Perry will get propositioned to by a couple of human and alien creatures. There\'s also a bar scene with hologram female dancers not really wearing anything. Some of the other female characters are wearing revealing clothing. The bar mentioned earlier does not sell drinks, but odors, which you will have to inhale and get high to complete a quest.
Moral issues aside, this is a fun adventure game. Many of the puzzles are relatively easy to complete but there are some real tough ones as well. Like many adventure games, there\'s a mini game that you will have to learn and master to complete a quest. The story and character development is great and will immerse you into Perryverse as they say. I recommend this game to any teen or older adventure gamer, if the appropriateness issues aren\'t a problem.
