Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow (PS2)
Story
The year is 2006. U.S. installs a temporary military base on East Timor to train the developing defense force of the ?world?s youngest democracy.? Resistance to U.S. military presence in Southeast Asia is widespread and passionate, but the threat Indonesian militias pose to Timorese democracy is deemed sufficient justification. At the same time, the U.S. doesn?t mind having an excuse to install active military personnel within easy reach of both North Korea and the largest Muslim population in Asia. Anti-U.S. resentment comes to a head under the leadership of guerilla militia leader Suhadi Sadono, acting with the unofficial support of major corrupt factions of the Indonesian government. Suhadi?s men attack and occupy the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, taking dozens of civilian and military personnel hostage. You are Sam Fisher. You?re sent in, not to rescue the hostages, but to destroy top-secret documentation held in the embassy before Suhadi?s men access it.
Game Play
You play from a third-person perspective as Sam Fisher, highly trained in high-risk espionage missions. You act in stealth and are sent to find certain information as your goals. Sam carries both a silenced pistol and a silenced SC-20k machine gun/sniper rifle but you use them only as a last resort. Stealth is your top priority. You are paid to be invisible. There several missions that take place in Indonesia, Paris , Jerusalem, East Timor, and Los Angeles. Like the game\'\'s predecessor, Sam has to hack computers, steal items, and interrogate certain people he runs into. The controls are very straightfoward and easy to get used to.
Enemies
Your enemies consist mainly of guerilla soldiers but also include french police officers, security guards, and terrorists. Though they all come from different parts of the world, they are all basically the same, except you can\'\'t kill the french police officers no matter how desperate your situation.
Graphics
The graphics in this video game are some of the best I\'ve seen in games, no matter the system. They are a contender to the graphics in the Halo games from Bungie. They beat the original Splinter Cell in that the charactor\'s fingers don\'t even stick together. Graphics get an A+.
Appropriate?
I\'\'d say the game is appropriate for anyone over the age of 11 even though its rated Teen. You are only actually forced to kill one person and there is no blood or gore whatsoever. You have the option to kill enemies in certain situations; but as I said, its an option. You can always just avoid them altogether or knock them out cold. Swearing is only used when enemies are totally confused and there is only one swear word in the game\'s vocabulary and needless to say, its one of the more minor swears.
Availability?
The Splinter Cell games are very easy to find and the first two run just over 10 dollars. The used ones, which are usually in good condition, are probably only just over 5 dollars.
