Frostrail, Co-Op Survival FPS from Barotrauma Devs, Launches Playtest on April 16

Sign-ups available now on Steam, as revealed during the triple-i Showcase

BORDEAUX, France – April 9, 2026 – Frostrail, the brutal co-op survival FPS from Barotrauma developer FakeFish and publisher Shiro Unlimited (Wartales, over 1 million units sold), which has already surpassed 300,000 wishlists on Steam, unveiled a new trailer during the Triple-i Showcase, announcing its upcoming Steam playtest beginning Thursday, April 16. Players can sign up now on Steam.

In a world frozen by a cataclysmic event, survival depends on constant movement. With the surface ravaged by sub-zero temperatures and relentless blizzards, steam-powered trains and the tracks that guide them are players’ last lifeline. Brave the wasteland solo or in online co-op, and push ever forward into the unknown.

Scavenge abandoned settlements, frozen shelters, and underground ruins for vital resources to keep your train running. But the cold isn’t your only enemy. Revenants, corrupted remnants of the dead, are drawn to the roar of the train’s engine. Craft weapons and gear, ration your ammo, and engage in intense FPS combat to survive their relentless assaults.

Venture deeper into the frost. Expand your train with new carriages, crafting stations, and defensive upgrades. Balance exploration, resource management, and survival as you endure blizzards, maintain your engine, and hold the line against the ever-present threat of the Revenants.

“Frostrail pushes both solo players and co-op teams to their limits with a tense and unforgiving survival loop,” said Ez Jämsen, Lead Designer at FakeFish. “We’ve worked hard to craft a world that feels both hostile and alive, and we can’t wait to see players carve their own path through the frost when the playtest begins.”

The Frostrail playtest will be available on PC via Steam starting April 16, 2026. The game is set to launch in Early Access later in 2026, with support for English, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, and Simplified Chinese.
