PLAYTEST ANNOUNCEMENT: MELEE COMBAT MMO ‘SWORDEYE’ INVITES PLAYERS TO 3D OPEN-WORLD ON MARCH 26TH
Enrollment is now open for the extraction looter’s latest MMO Overworld expansion.
Las Vegas, Nevada, 12 March 2026 | Solo developer ALX Theory is excited to welcome a new wave of players to their directional swordfighting MMO title, Swordeye (formerly known as Swordai). The game’s latest playtest, launching on March 26th, features a brand new raid experience in the game’s Overworld. Players can anticipate open-world combat events, proximity voice chat, extraction opportunities, and portals to newly designed dungeons in the game’s popular tower map. Interested parties can enroll now on Steam.
Exploring The Overworld
Swordeye’s latest playtest introduces the game’s new Overworld map, a sprawling 3D landscape to introduce MMO elements to the directional combat extraction title. The open-world encourages players to team up and explore, collecting a variety of items for their kit. Loot includes different dual-handed swords, amulets for protection, and elements for crafting potions and ability upgrades. Preparation is key, as world events will spawn regularly and challenge players' prowess in combat. Defend the Overworld’s central keep against waves of NPCs targeting the base’s gates, towers, and satellite buildings. Players spawn at the center of the Overworld, where lower-stakes rules apply, and they can jump back into the action.
Scaling Extraction Rewards
In addition to the Overworld’s frequent world events, players can take advantage of the open-world map to hunt for higher-value loot. While the area surrounding the central keep is ripe with basic gear, venturing into remote areas offers enticing upgrades. Demarcation lines indicate where players can find better rewards at higher costs. If you’re killed outside of this boundary, you will lose your items and respawn at your last bind stone, where you dropped your gear. The Overworld also features portals to the game’s dungeon system. Pass through a red portal and explore the corridors of Swordeye’s largest tower. Ascend as many floors as you can, escaping each level alive and encountering tougher NPCs, fellow players, and greater rewards.
Proximity Chat Added, Feature Updates
Alongside Swordeye’s new Overworld, the playtest also introduces new features for its open-world zone. Jump pads help players maneuver around the massive map, and demarcation lines between the central map and remote areas create a customizable difficulty experience; if players are feeling brave, they can test their luck for better gear, but risk losing it all if they are killed. Proximity voice chat encourages players to team up and tackle world events together. Coordinate your attack on the central keep before enemy waves spawn in, and quickly adjust your strategy as enemy forces close in. Beyond combat challenges, the map also features a variety of locked doors, unmarked keys, and chests to uncover. Dedicated players can expect nearly 20 hours of content in Swordeye’s largest playtest yet.
Playtest Features:
A 3D overworld featuring raid events, mini objectives, and new areas to explore.
Extraction opportunities for better gear and loot in the game’s overworld and tower ascension map.
MMO-lite gameplay, with up to 30 players per server.
Loot opportunities with scaling difficulty, offering greater rewards at a higher cost.
A beginner-friendly approach for new players, retaining their loot if they’re overcome in combat.
Guaranteed access for all players in the queue at the start of the playtest.
Servers open on March 26th at 1 PM PST
