Inside Love and Deepspace: Infold Games Details Custom Rendering Breakthroughs at Unite 2025
Shanghai, October 23, 2025 – Unity’s global developer conference, Unite 2025, kicked off in Shanghai for a two-day event celebrating innovation in interactive entertainment. As part of the Game Case Studies track, technical leaders from several major Chinese studios showcased their latest applications of the Unity engine. Among them, a session hosted by Infold Games drew particular attention; the room filled to capacity, with attendees standing in the aisles to listen in.
Infold Games has been a long-term partner of Unity, having utilized its technology across multiple projects and even shared insights on stage at Unite 2019. This year, three senior engineers from the studio delivered a deep dive into the development of Love and Deepspace, one of Infold’s most celebrated global titles.
Launched in January 2024, Love and Deepspace is the world’s first fully 3D interactive romance mobile game. Since release, it has maintained exceptional global momentum, attracting more than 70 million players worldwide as of September 2025. The title has topped both free and grossing charts in key markets including the United States, Japan, and Singapore, reaching No.1 on the App Store grossing chart 22 times across various regions and leading the free charts in 26 countries and territories. In August, Love and Deepspace was awarded “Best Mobile Game” at Gamescom—the world’s largest gaming expo—becoming the first female-oriented game in history to receive the honor and the only Chinese title recognized this year.
As Love and Deepspace continues to find both commercial and critical success, the technology behind its acclaimed “cinematic experience” has captured worldwide attention. At Unite 2025, Engine Technology Lead Tianlong Ruan, Technical Art Lead Ping Qin, and Senior Physics Algorithm Engineer Yingjie Zhao took the stage to unpack the rendering, character presentation, and physics systems that bring the game’s lifelike visuals to life.
According to Ruan, the team carried out extensive research into scene rendering optimization, lighting, and shadow behavior to meet players’ expectations for high-fidelity graphics. For example, to realistically simulate sunlight filtering through the art studio of love interest Rafayel, the team developed a bespoke “semi-shadow region detection” method—preserving shadow quality while significantly reducing computational load, ensuring smooth performance across a wide range of mobile devices.
When it came to character rendering, the developers focused on immersion down to physiological detail. Qin explained that characters display context-specific blushing effects, sometimes beginning at the ears before spreading to the cheeks, and at other times flushing across the entire face. The game’s fitness companion system also required convincing perspiration effects, achieved through custom algorithms that generate sweat droplets with motion patterns tailored to each activity.
In the area of 3D clothing, Infold’s engineers showcased their technical mastery. Zhao detailed how the game’s intricate outfits employ advanced skeletal-based cloth simulation alongside lightweight yet natural Cosserat Rod constraints. To ensure realistic interaction between character bodies and fabric, the team implemented a complex mesh-surface adhesion method—enabling subtle and believable cloth deformation in motion.
By fully embracing 3D technology, Love and Deepspace has redefined the visual standard for interactive romance games. Behind its striking presentation lies a willingness to push technical boundaries, with Infold Games pioneering custom R&D and developing a proprietary rendering pipeline to overcome performance bottlenecks. The result is a consistently high-quality visual experience across diverse device specifications—one that respects the expectations of every player.
