Lovecraftian RPG: The Necromancer’s Tale Brings Death To Life on July 17th
Command the dead, manipulate the living, and master the forbidden arts in a story-rich gothic RPG that dives deep into power and consequence.
June 27, 2025 – Psychic Software has announced that The Necromancer’s Tale, its upcoming top-down, story-rich gothic RPG with isometric viewpoint will officially launch on July 17th for PC via Steam. To mark the occasion, the team has released a brand-new release date trailer and an in-depth, narrated 7-minute overview covering the core mechanics, combat, and systems behind this unique necromantic experience.
Set in an 18th-century alt-history version of Italy, The Necromancer’s Tale offers players a richly layered narrative, focused on the dark path of necromancy - not as a power fantasy, but as a descent into moral compromise, secrecy, and transformation.
You play as a minor noble with an unusual gift, pulled into the hidden world of death magic and the political machinations it fuels. Inspired by the narrative depth of Disco Elysium and the strategic design of Pillars of Eternity, this is a gothic RPG where your words can be as deadly as your spells.

With over 400,000 words of branching narrative, 180+ unique NPCs, and a trust system that tracks what factions see and believe about you, The Necromancer’s Tale ensures that every decision, every ritual, and every conversation carries real weight.
“We didn’t want to create a hero’s tale, we wanted to give players the freedom to write their own descent. Whether you become a savior, a tyrant, or something worse… that’s entirely up to you’’, said Game Director Sam Redfern and Marketing Director Kirsty Halloran.
The narrative draws inspiration from the works of H.P. Lovecraft, delivering a grounded world where unseen horrors and social intrigue collide, challenging your morality at every turn.
KEY GAMEPLAY FEATURES:
Master the Dark Arts: Command the dead and perform chilling necromantic rites to change your fate, and that of others.
Turn-Based Combat: Engage in combat using your undead minions and loyal allies. A combat auto-resolve mode is available for players who prefer to focus on the story.
Shape Your Story Through Dialogue: Influence allies and enemies alike through branching conversations, manipulation, and strategic deception.
A Long-Form Narrative Adventure: Expect 25–50 hours of gameplay, shaped by your choices, side quests, and hidden discoveries.
